Kate Hudson is still reeling from the effects of the Los Angeles wildfires.
As the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star walked the red carpet at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica, Calif., she reflected on seeing the natural disaster ravage the community she calls home.
“I grew up in the [Pacific] Palisades,” she exclusively told E! News correspondent Will Marfuggi Feb. 7. “I think that it's something that you would never imagine you’d ever see in your lifetime or experience.”
But amid the devastation, the actress said she’s been inspired by the relief efforts already underway.
“To me, it makes sense,” Kate, 45, continued. “People who live in Los Angeles, we love Los Angeles, and everyone's just risen to the occasion. Now we just have to go through that, continue to support each other and rebuild.”
In fact, Kate’s sister-in-law Meredith Hagner, who walked the red carpet with the Running Point star, has already seen the community’s resilience firsthand.
“My canyon was literally saved by neighbors patrolling people's houses,” Meredith, who is married to Kate’s brother Wyatt Russell, noted. “It's unbelievable, really, how people come together.”

Kate—who is mom to sons Ryder Robinson, 20, with ex-husband Chris Robinson, and Bingham Bellamy, 13, with Matt Bellamy as well as 6-year-old daughter Rani Rose with fiancé Danny Fujikawa—previously shared that while she felt “very lucky” her home survived the catastrophic blaze, the chaos of the moment still weighed heavily on her.
“Been a wild, life changing couple of weeks for us in the Palisades and other affected areas and so we've been going through it,” she wrote in an Instagram Stories post Jan. 23. “Long road ahead but so grateful for all of your love and kindness.”
