Cynthia Erivoâs hilarious response after being quizzed on Oscars performance
Wicked was a huge success at the box office and received 10 Oscar nominations, with lots of people are hoping the film will be a big part of the event
With the Oscars coming soon, lots of people are wondering what surprises the event will bring. This year, there has also been talk about possible performances, including one by Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
Now, Cynthia has spoken about the rumour. The British actress and singer, who is nominated for an Oscar this year, attended the Super Bowl LIX!, where she chatted with Access Hollywoodâs Scott Evans at the big game in New Orleans and when she was asked if she and the Wicked cast would perform at the Oscars, the star seemed visibly amused.
She hilariously walked away, immediately replying: âIâm not doing this with you, goodbye. Iâm not saying anything, goodbye." For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter
âI donât know where you got that from, goodbye. What are you talking about? I donât know anything. I donât know what heâs talking about. I canât tell you anything about it. Iâm going, goodbye.â
Wicked was a huge success at the box office and received 10 Oscar nominations, and because musicals are often included in the show, lots of people are hoping the film will be a big part of the event. Cynthiaâs surprise at the prospect of singing might be because Wicked was not nominated for Best Original Song.
The filmâs songs were originally written for the stage, so they did not qualify for that category. However, musicals have been featured at the Oscars before, even when their songs were not nominated. For example, in 2013, the cast of Les Misérables performed âOne Day Moreâ at the ceremony, even though it was not eligible for an award.
This year, The Academy has also changed how they present Best Original Song. In the past, all nominated songs were performed live, but this time, they are focusing on showing how the songs were created.
The Academy Awards will be live on ABC on March 2 and can also be streamed on Hulu.
