CLEVELAND, Ohio -- DC is giving fans an extended sneak peek at its upcoming “Superman” movie. The new, nearly five-minute clip premiered at CinemaCon earlier this week and is playing in theaters ahead of “A Minecraft Movie” screenings. It opens with a dramatic sequence where an injured Superman (David Corenswet) is dragged by Krypto the Superdog to the Fortress of Solitude, where a team of robots works to heal him.
Much of the remaining footage comes from the teaser released in December, including shots filmed in Cleveland last summer. That includes a scene at Progressive Field where Superman is being dragged by a villain and another where Superman and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) float through the air at The Arcade.
The video does offer a fresh look at Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, who surveys Metropolis and ominously remarks, “He’s back.” There’s also a glimpse of Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific under attack in a scene shot at Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor.
James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) wrote and directed the film.
“One day, I think it just sort of hit me what I wanted to do, creating a story that was utterly human and utterly fantastic at the same time,” Gunn told theater owners at CinemaCon, according to The Wrap. “And I think we created a film that bounces between those two poles.”
Superman was created in 1932 by Clevelanders Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, making his comic book debut in “Action Comics #1″ in 1938. The new movie arrives in theaters on July 11.
