People who travel through a part of Wales which has just been crowned the best place to live in the country are being warned by police to do one thing when they do visit to reduce a problem which is spoiling it for some of the people who live and work there.

PC Simon Chadwick, of the neighbourhood policing team in Gower, has reminded drivers that the 40mph speed limit along the commons of the Gower peninsula is "a limit, not a target", as lambs, foals and calves begin to be seen in the area once again this spring.

The warning comes as the Gower Peninsula has been named The Sunday Times' best place to live in Wales for 2025, recognising its "stunning sandy beaches and cosy coves, all of them with unique features such as rugged rocks and mountains tumbling to the sea shore." A statement from South Wales Police read: "PC Chadwick from Gower neighbourhood policing team is asking drivers to slow down on the commons of Gower. It's coming up to the time of the year when lambs, foals and calves will be appearing on the commons. The speed limit on the commons is 40mph. This is a limit - not a target. You will have to drive a lot slower when passing the livestock, especially the younger animals.

"These animals have the right to roam free on the commons. Speeding enforcement will be taking place on Gower by South Wales Police and the safer camera partnership. Please remember that, by law, all collisions involving these animals must be reported to the police. Please drive safe and enjoy this beautiful part of Wales."
