Death in Paradise's JP Hooper star details reason for exit ahead of BBC return
As Death in Paradise is set to return to our screens for season 14, fans will be delighted to see that a familiar face is making a comeback as Tobi Bakare's character JP Hooper returns.
Death in Paradise fans were distraught when the beloved JP Hooper, portrayed by Tobi Bakare, bid farewell to Saint Marie in 2021.
Yet, there's good news on the horizon as the hit BBC series returns this week for its 14th season, bringing a well-missed character back to the screen.
Having exited the series after seven years due to a job offer from Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Tobi's much-loved character is making an unexpected comeback.
Chatting to RadioTimes, the actor recounted an epiphany three years before his departure whilst shooting season seven in a church. He explained: "The preacher mentioned seven years in a message.

"As soon as he mentioned seven years, I don't know what happened. It just clicked. It was like a moment of realisation. I had three more years left. It was three more years until it would be seven years, but it just hit me so hard."
"At this time, my wife was in the UK, and I told her that I know when it's going to be time for me to leave the show. But I wanted her to go away, pray about it, and think about it.
"She'd done so, and called me up the next day, and said, '2020'. So the exact time of the seven years. So we were like, 'Yeah, that's the time.' That's the actual reason."

On a more personal note, Tobi confessed to castmate Tahj Miles, who portrays Officer Marlon Pryce, that his decision to leave was conflicted because of their rappor, reports Express.
Speaking on Tahj's YouTube channel, he shared: "You were the one that created the conflict in between me leaving because we found the flow."
Tahj's role in the series began during season 10, and audiences witnessed his character's friction with JP. Yet, their tumultuous friendship reached a resolution before his departure from the island.
Now, as JP is set to return, fans are eagerly anticipating whether their camaraderie will endure.
