Dermot O'Leary shares emotional advice from Simon Cowell as he fronts new show
This Morning presenter Dermot O'Leary has been a mainstay on British TV for almost three decades - and he's set to host a new comedy game show, Silence is Golden
This Morning's Dermot O'Leary opened up on his past X Factor days and dishing out why he's more selective about his roles now. Dermot has been in showbiz world for a whopping 30 years, starting his journey as the fresh face of T4 back in '98. Now at 51, he's not hitting the brakes yet, with a shiny new game show gig, Silence is Golden, coming to U and Dave.
The new show will see a chance for the audience to win a split of ÂŁ250,000 - if they can just stay silent during hilarious comedy performances. Speaking about why he's diving into this new venture, Dermot confessed: "It wasn't necessarily I wanted to do a comedy game show. I mean, I'm desperate for it to succeed. I'm passionate about it and I want to do another one, but so many things have to align for that to happen. So this was more about that it felt like it was something different."

After welcoming his son Kasper into the world with his wife Dee Koppang in 2020, Dermot's admitted he's had to give some dream jobs a hard pass. "There's a couple of jobs I've turned down since we've had Kasper that I would love to have done, but I'm not going to go away for the amount of time. Not unless he was with me. You've only got one life", reports the Mirror.
One of Dermot's most memorable gigs was Saturday night prime-time show The X Factor, which he hosted from 2007 to 2014 and 2016 to 2018. He left after eight years in 2014, before returning a year later.

Dermot revealed that Simon Cowell gave him complete control over his hosting duties. He recalled: "On the live shows Simon always said to me, 'I'm never going to touch a word of your script, never going to tell you what to say. I'm paying you to go out and do it'".
Dermot appreciated the trust Simon showed in him, saying: "He stuck to his word for 12 years and let me get on with it, which I enjoyed so much."
Simon and Dermot recently reunited on This Morning. However, things took an awkward turn when Simon's fellow BGT judge Bruno Tonioli seemed frustrated during a conversation about a contestant on Britain's Got Talent, telling off host Alison Hammond for being "nasty" when she jokingly suggested that a "lie detector" could verify the authenticity of the moment. Bruno sharply responded: "Why do you always have to go for the nasty? It is not set-up my darling."
