Detail in Kate and William's cash showing up Harry: EDEN CONFIDENTIAL
Their new years could scarcely have begun in more starkly contrasting manner. Here, the Princess of Wales has been welcomed at London's Royal Marsden Hospital.
Their respective new years could scarcely have begun in more starkly contrasting manner.
Here, the Princess of Wales has been welcomed at Londonâs Royal Marsden Hospital, both by patients and by those staff who successfully treated Catherine for cancer.
Over in California, on the other hand, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been bruisingly derided as âdisaster touristsâ after handing out food to Los Angeles fire victims.
Now, I can disclose, the ever-expanding gulf between the two couples has been unsparingly highlighted by the fortunes of their respective foundations.Â
The Earthshot Prize â established by Prince William in 2019 to devise solutions to âsome of the worldâs greatest environmental problemsâ â has just released its annual report showing that it is going gangbusters.
The uninitiated could be forgiven for missing this, given that Earthshotâs total income for the year was up only a relatively modest four per cent, at ÂŁ23.5million.
But that overlooks the fact that no less than ÂŁ8.6 million of the ÂŁ22.5million raised the previous year was a one-off donation from The Royal Foundation, set up by William and Harry in 2009 to further their various charitable ambitions.
There was no such donation for this year for the Earthshot, which in 2022 was hived off from The Royal Foundation to be administered as an entirely separate charity. So its underlying income from donations increased by a whopping 68 per cent.

The founding partners gave ÂŁ14.4million. But perhaps even more intriguing is the contribution made by The American Friends of The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales.
It more than doubled to ÂŁ6.1 million, from ÂŁ2.7million the previous year.
To put that in perspective, Meghan and Harry raised a total of ÂŁ4.67million from all sources for their Archewell Foundation.
The Duchess of Edinburgh does not turn 60 until Monday, but she couldnât wait to get the party started.
Sophie was served an orange birthday cake at The Company Shop in Lambeth, south London, during an engagement yesterday.Â
The community hub offers discounted food to residents and free meals to children in the school holidays. She rolled up her sleeves and served food to locals in the centreâs canteen.
Before her husband, Prince Edward, turned 60 last March, Sophie gave a rare, deeply personal speech in Leeds when she called him âThe best of fathers and the most loving of husbandsâ.

Anne Robinson quit as host of The Weakest Link in 2011, but the Queen of Mean is making a comeback, for one night only.
Sheâs to host a live edition of the BBC quiz show this Saturday at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
âItâs in aid of getting my village school, Hatherop Primary, out of leaking prefab classrooms and into a proper building,â she tells me. âItâs a sell-out.â
Among the contestants are Queen Camillaâs son Tom Parker Bowles, former jockey Willie Carson and news presenter Kay Burley.
Robinson, 80, jokingly adds of her return: âIâve doubled my Pilates classes and am training to stand upright.â

Robbie Williams, who is played by a CGI monkey in the new biopic Better Man, has reignited his feud with the Gallaghers.Â
âWhen it comes to Oasis, they are the poster childs [sic] of bullies,â the former Take That singer declares. âWhether Noel and Liam know it or not, whether they like to understand it or care, they gave every schoolground bully permission to group and still be bullies by the way they acted and behaved.
âLiam has very much evolved and softened. But Noel, still in this aspect of his life, remains unevolved, when it comes to just being unnecessarily cold, malicious and unkind.â
A spokesman for the Gallaghers declines to comment.

Actor Michael Sheen revealed on Radio 4âs Front Row: âI managed to buy [Laurence] Olivierâs nose that he wore as Richard III in the [1955] film . . . There was a photo in the Olivier Theatre auditorium that I would have loved . . . but some anonymous person clearly had their eyes on it.â

Labour luvvie David Tennant has been told off by theatreland impresario Sir Cameron Mackintosh for voicing his ignorant opinions on West End ticket prices.Â
âYou get a lot of rather naive famous actors mouthing off about this and that,â says the producer. â. . . He should know better.â

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) â Maybe attending sports events in person is too been-there, done-that in the modern age. So, apparently, is watching the actual action on a TV, laptop or phone. The Australian Open is getting in on the newest trend in the sports world by re-creating tennis matches in video-game form.
The year's first Grand Slam tournament, which runs through Jan. 26, is streaming real-time animated feeds on its YouTube channel that mimic what's happening in the three main stadiums.
Players are represented by characters that look like something out of a Wii game â not exactly perfect portrayals of Coco Gauff or Novak Djokovic, perhaps, but the graphics do try to show the correct outfit colors or hats and bandanas the athletes are wearing and reflect what is happening in the matches, with about a one-point delay.
âSometimes I think itâs a very accurate (depiction) of the actual player thatâs playing. So itâs weird. Itâs funny and weird,â said 2021 U.S. Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, who will face Gauff in the third round Friday. âI did not see myself just yet. Maybe I will. Now Iâm curious, because Iâve seen different players ... and I think I want to watch myself, too.â
Tennis Australia created its own âskinsâ to represent players, chair umpires and ball persons.
âThe wonderful part of it is itâs the playersâ actual movement. Itâs the actual trajectory of the ball,â Machar Reid, Tennis Australiaâs director of innovation, told The Associated Press. âWeâre taking the real into the unreal. Thatâs part of the magic.â
Carlos Alcaraz, a four-time Grand Slam champion at age 21, called it âa good alternative.â
Like many players preparing for future opponents, Fernandez often scours YouTube to try to find footage of past matches to aid with scouting. That, Fernandez said with a chuckle, is how she accidentally discovered the cartoonish replays from Melbourne Park that have been creating a buzz among the competitors.
She was having trouble finding a certain match when she noticed a thumbnail photo of two players, Fernandez said.
âSo I click on it and think, âThis is it! Finally! I have one,'â Fernandez said. Nope. Itâs a Wii character, which is hilarious.â
Jiri Lehecka, a Czech player seeded 24th in Australia, was checking social media the other day when he came across a âreplayâ of 2021 U.S. Open champion Daniil Medvedev's avatar destroying a net camera by smacking it repeatedly with his racket during a first-round victory.
âI had no idea that something like that exists, so for me, it was quite funny to see that,â Lehecka said. âMaybe I will see myself as a game character one day. We will see.â
To get the chance, he'll need to play a match in Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena or John Cain Arena. Tennis Australia first experimented with this on one court during last year's tournament, hoping to attract gamers and a younger audience to the sport.
The NFL, NBA and NHL also have tried this type of approach, using animation for alternate game telecasts.
The 2024 debut in Melbourne âwas kind of in stealth and didnât necessarily capture the worldâs imagination. But this year, weâve seen that happening,â Reid said.
The streams in the first four days of the event this week drew more than 950,000 views, according to Tennis Australia; the figure for the same time period in 2024 was about 140,000.
âItâs part of our DNA to innovate and try to challenge the status quo or, in this instance, provide experiences to different groups of fans that are more personalized for them to consume,â Reid said. âWeâre seeing younger kids or the gaming demographic gravitating to the sport maybe in this way. Clearly, itâs not for everyone.â
Might this eventually became the No. 1 way fans âwatchâ sports?
âNot in my lifetime and not in yours, I donât think. But who knows? The world of sport and entertainment is moving so, so quickly,â Reid said. âBut I think weâre always going to be drawn to the amazing athletes doing their thing in front of our very eyes.â
