While covering New York Comic Con 2024, I had the chance to speak with Drop director Chris Landon and star Meghann Fahy after the Blumfest panel. The thriller will be released in theaters on April 11.
When it came to working together on this project, what do you consider to be the most rewarding part of the experience and what did you learn from each other?Meghann Fahy: Wow, what a beautiful question. Uh-oh, I hope I don’t cry!Chris Landon: That’s a good question!
Fahy: Well, I think the first thing that comes to mind and I’ve been talking about it a little bit today, which is probably why, it was my first time working in the genre. So I was really intimidated, but Chris created such an incredibly safe environment for me to play in and I felt really, really cared for and looked after by him in a way that only he could do because he’s so smart, he knew exactly what he wanted and he knew exactly how to explain it to me. And so, I think that would be my biggest takeaway. What did I learn from you? I mean, that you can be decisive and give people respect while also being a very calm person who respects the people that are around them. I think we had a very, very happy crew because of him. He set a very good example.Landon: We had a good set. I learned a ton from her. I did and the funny thing is, and this isn’t really the answer to your question, but when you make a movie, you are embarking on a journey with someone that you haven’t worked with before, so it’s a lot of new, you know what I mean? You’re trying to sort of figure out like, what makes them tick? Are there things that you need to do to help sort of make them comfortable or whatever? But I had this moment on my first day where I was sitting there at the monitor and the light bulb turned on where I was like, “Oh, she can do anything.” It was like, you don’t know what kind of car you’re going to be driving sometimes and I was like, “Oh, it’s a Ferrari today, yay.” It is the truth. Also, one of the beauties of our job too, is that you get to work with people and then hopefully, forge really good friendships and that’s really something that I love to take away from the process too.
Since we’re at NYCC, what was your favorite part of getting to see the fan reactions, and how many people showed up just to get a peek at the movie? What was your takeaway from being at the convention? Fahy: Yeah, I mean, it’s honestly inspiring, truthfully, the fan base that supports all of these worlds and it’s my first time being at Comic Con, so I really was just taking it in. When we walked out, I didn’t know how many people were even going to be there.Landon: I had no idea.
Fahy: And it was really incredible to see the excitement for all of the films. We got to see some of the other trailers, which are also incredible. It just feels like a very supportive place and I think that’s so magical and great.Landon: I don’t know, it set my social anxiety on fire. I walked out there and I was like, “Oh no.”
