A dwarf actor have hit out at the remake of Disney's Snow White, taking aim at the use of CGI characters.

The actor has labelled the decision "discriminating in a sense" and revealed his fears it could have an impact on careers of people with dwarfism. The upcoming live-action remake of the Disney classic is set for release in the UK on March 21. However, viewers will see computer-generated images used to showcase the seven dwarves.

And that has led to fury from some actors who play the "much loved" roles in Snow White pantomimes, who fear the decision will hugely affect their livelihood.

Speaking to Mail Online, bodybuilder and performer Choon Tan, 31, called the change "absolutely absurd and discriminating in a sense". He said: "I think Disney is trying too hard to be politically correct, but in doing so it’s damaging our careers and opportunities.

"There really is nothing wrong casting someone with dwarfism as a dwarf in any given opportunity. As long as we are treated equally and with respect, we’re usually more than happy to take on any acting roles that are suitable for us."

He added it also gave younger viewers a chance to see someone with dwarfism, saying it's sometimes something they have never seen before.

Choon has previously appeared in Weston-Super-Mare and Yeovil pantomimes of the popular show. He slammed Disney, saying their decision offended him. He also claimed there are "plenty of actors" who would have been capable to take on the role in the new on-screen production.

"They wouldn’t use CGI for a tall character, so why do they have to use it for dwarfs?," he fumed. "I personally feel discriminated against as everyone should be given an equal opportunity."

Choon is now worried about a potential "domino effect" with any other projects. He said that their career is hard enough as there aren't may opportunities to begin with.

The premiere of the movie took place in Segrovia, north-west of Madrid, on Wednesday night in what was a dramatically scaled back event. It's said Rachel Zegler, who plays the part of Snow White, entertained a "handful" of people at the remote medieval castle.

In August 2023, the live-action remake was slammed as “disrespectful” by the son of the director who helmed the original animated classic. David Hand directed the 1937 movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was the first-ever Disney animated feature film, but his son, also called David, criticised the upcoming live-action remake of the movie.

He claimed filmmakers were making Snow White “woke”. In an interview with The Telegraph, he fumed: “It's a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it. Their thoughts are just so radical now.”
