Drake has issued a federal defamation lawsuit to his music label over rival Kendrick Lamar's diss track Not Like Us.
The Canadian rapper, 38, sued Universal Music Group as he claims the label are taking part in spreading the "false and malicious narrative" that he is a pedophile. In court documents, Drake says the label knew Lamar's diss track would include lyrics and images in a music video that made the allegation against him.
He has accused UMG of allowing "'inflammatory and shocking allegations" because the song was a "gold mine" for them. Drake also claims the label promoted Not Like Us because they knew it would devalue his own music and give leverage in future contract negotiations.
It is alleged UMG paid a third party to use bots to increase Lamar's song's streams by at least 30million, according to the lawsuit. The company allegedly used a "pay for play" scheme with at least one radio promoter and named the track a "chart topper" based on fraudulent data.
The lawsuit has made a point of stating it is not against Kendrick Lamar. "This lawsuit is not about the artist who created Not Like Us," the suit states. "It is, instead, entirely about UMG, the music company that decided to publish, promote, exploit, and monetize" a song that contained false claims.

Drake has claimed the song put him in danger as he cited the number of shootings near or at his mansion in Toronto since its release. Not Like Us spent 21 weeks on the top of the Billboard Hot Rap songs chart as well as 22 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It reached the number one spot twice and has over 914million plays on Spotify.
A spokesperson for UMG said in a statement: "The suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We employ the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns. No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear."
In the song, Kendrick accuses Drake of "liking 'em young". He rapped: "Say, Drake, I hear you like 'em young," before going on to say Drake would struggle in prison because of his alleged interests. The rapper then warned people to "make sure you hide your lil' sister from him."
Kendrick also made reference to Drake's album Certified Lover Boy, singing: "Certified Lover Boy? Certified paedophiles." The musician added: "Ain’t you tired? / Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A-Minor." The artwork for Not Like Us also featured a dig at Drake as it showed an aerial shot of his mansion as it would look on a sex-offender map.
Drake quickly responded by releasing The Heart Part 6 where he rapped that he's "never been with no one underage". The feud between the two rappers started when Kendrick hit out at Drake and J Cole in his song First Person Shooter. While J Cole backed out of the diss track battle, Drake accused Kendrick of domestic violence in his song Family Matters.
