EastEnders fans distracted by Sonia's baby blunder as they vote on name
EastEnders fans were left in stitches as they noticed a blunder with baby Julia during a live episode of the BBC soap, as they also voted on the baby's name
Eagle-eyed EastEnders fans were quick to call out a slip-up during the soap's live episode earlier tonight.
Boldly venturing into another live episode, a venture it has undertaken several times before, EastEnders often finds its errors becoming talking points among viewers. Tonight's broadcast offered up yet another amusing moment when Sonia was depicted giving birth, with sister Bianca Jackson and Lauren Branning at her side.
Just meters away lay the lifeless body of the baby's father, the villainous Reiss Colwell. The newborn initially turned blue but, to everyone's relief, began crying after receiving care.
As paramedics arrived, Sonia and her company, along with the newborn, made their exit from the pub. But viewers couldn't look past how the infant appeared on their screens.
Social media was alight with observations, with one person noting the baby resembled a doll. A sceptical viewer commented on X: "sonia and that baby was the most ridiculous scene ever it looked so fake," while another remarked: "Sonia's baby has tripled in size within 5 mins..." Humour was found by another who said: "Why has Sonia's baby aged 10 months in 15 seconds.", reports the Mirror.
One more chimed in: "Sonia's baby looks like Mother Theresa."
The blunder occurred as part of an EastEnders episode where viewers had earlier exercised their power to name Sonia's baby Julia during the second interactive vote of the night. With the drama unfolding in the back of an ambulance, a relieved Sonia announced to her child: "So welcome to the world Julia, it's all about to begin."
Soap opera enthusiasts recently faced a touching decision to name a baby Tonia sentimental tribute to 'EastEnders' original creators Julia Smith and Tony Holland. This followed a stunning appearance by soap legend Anita Dobson, who made her return to the BBC series on Wednesday night, stepping back into the shoes of her acclaimed character, the late Angie Watts.
In a gripping scene, as Angie's daughter Sharon Watts became trapped upstairs in the pub, she struggled for air, leading to an intense hallucination of Angie speaking to her.
In this vivid illusion, Angie commanded her to scream out for assistance, assuring Sharon that it wasn't yet her time to go. "You're not giving up on us, are you Sharon? " questioned Angie.
"Hello, darling! I've missed you so much."
As a shivering Sharon confided in her mother that she was cold, Angie's spirit responded saying: "I know baby and I wish I could just put my arms round you and give you a great big hug but it's not time for us to be together yet darling."
Confronted with her fears, Sharon heard Angie's comforting voice exclaim: "We're all scared aren't we? Look at me - spent my whole life being scared. But you've got to keep fighting, Sharon."
Motivated by the figment of Angie, Sharon desperately cried out for help, leading to her dramatic rescue from the flames by Grant. Anita, aged 75, had last graced 'EastEnders' in 1988 as Angie, an original face of the show entwined in many of its most historic moments.
Anita made a surprise appearance on EastEnders: 40 Years on The Square earlier this week, featuring in the documentary that celebrates the soap's landmark anniversary. Her unexpected return left viewers utterly stunned, as it was kept under wraps until the episode aired that evening.
