EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has revealed that she 'didn't cry' filming her final scenes as she lifted the lid on her upcoming exit from the show.

Natalie has played the role of Sonia Fowler since 1993, with the actress only going on full-time hiatus from her acting duties on the BBC soap between 2007 and 2014, only appearing as a guest over the seven-year period.

‌

Sadly for fans of everyone's favourite East London trumpet player, Natalie confirmed at the beginning of the year that she is saying goodbye to Albert Square.

It's been a busy period for Sonia, who is currently attempting to help her sister Bianca overcome her PTSD after her ex-fiance Reiss kidnapped her and locked her up in a storage unit for several months.

On top of this, Sonia is looking after her new baby Julia, who was born at the end of the programme's 40th anniversary live episode, which resulted in the death of her first-love and former husband Martin Fowler.

‌

Speaking about saying goodbye to her castmates on Off The Telly podcast, which she hosts with Gavin and Stacey's Joanna Page, Natalie admitted that she 'didn't shed a tear'.

"I went to the nail shop this morning to get new nails and I got my hair done, because yesterday I left 'EastEnders'' I feel really good, I feel really excited. It was a brilliant day at work. I haven’t shed a tear, which is strange. I don’t know when that’s coming.

‌

"But I’ve had the most beautiful presents and cards from everybody. We had a soiree last night which was absolutely lovely. I did my scenes that were really lovely. And it’s just brilliant. I feel really excited now for the next chapter."

Back when she broke the news to fans that she was leaving EastEnders, Natalie said that she was 'extremely sad' but also 'very excited' to be entering a new chapter of her career.

"After another 11 solid years back on The Square, I have decided it’s time to move on to pastures new. EastEnders is in my bones so I will never forget where I started my career and I will continue to love the show.

‌

"Thank you to Chris Clenshaw for the opportunity to be such a big part of the 40th anniversary – it’s an honour. See ya, Sonia, going but never forgotten," she said.

Meanwhile, Natalie revealed on Tuesday morning (March 4) that she will be releasing her debut autobiography, Happy Days, on October 9, 2025, meaning fans will get some interesting stories about what it was like to play Sonia.

"I’ve only gone and written a book! Can’t believe it. It’s called ‘HAPPY DAYS’ and is available to pre order now- link in my bio or just search up happy days and my name wherever you buy your books.

"I’ve always loved books and to have my own one coming out this year on October 9th- is a dream come true. HAPPY TUESDAY. #books #firsy #joy #loss #telly #family #life #me #bebrave #newera," she said on Instagram.
