BBC's EastEnders introduced new members to the Mitchell family in June 2024, but viewers think they are more like a "parody" of the legendary group.

The three new members of the family are Teddy and his two sons, Harry and Barney.

‌

Teddy, (played by Roland Manookian), is the son of Stevie Mitchell and half-brother to Billy Mitchell, while his sons, Harry and Barney, are played by Elijah Holloway and Lewis Bridgeman, respectively.

Taking to Reddit, one fan said that the new Mitchells "aren't working", writing: "The new Mitchells aren’t working. I feel like I’m watching an EE parody every time they come on screen," while another quickly agreed: "EE parody is the perfect way to put it."

‌

EastEnders recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, which focused around the explosive events in the Queen Vic.

Most of the shows ongoing storylines took a backseat during these chaotic events, which is possible why the new Mitchells have struggled to jell with audiences.

One user seemed to think this could explained it, saying they would "have potential" if more time was spent on them, adding: "I think they have potential, but it feels like a lot of things were put to one side when they were on the road to the 40th like the only thing that mattered was telling those particular stories, so there was no room to explore Nicola the drug kingpin or Harry's missing ex."

‌

Grant Mitchell's (Ross Kemp) didn't help matters, as the legendary character has long been a fan favourite that viewers have been hoping to see again.

His brief appearance was again part of the show's 40th anniversary, which saw him help his brother Phil during his mental health crisis.

Grants return certainly overshadowed the new cast for some, with another user writing: "They aren’t Mitchells, having Grant back made them look tiny."

However, some did come to the new Mitchell's defence, with another user writing: "Everyone hating on them constantly feels so forced and it's almost like you aren't giving the actors a chance. They've barely had any scenes. Barney has been in less than 20 episodes, Teddy has been in a bit more but has barely had a proper role.

"Just let them have their turn rather than putting them down straight away, they are getting a storyline this week."
