EastEnders writer responds as ITV soaps accused of disrespecting BBC anniversary
EastEnders writer Daran Little has addressed a fan's complaint that the BBC and ITV soaps don't support one another enough, as the Walford soap celebrates its 40th anniversary
EastEnders writer Daran Little has addressed a fan's complaint about the lack of "solidarity" between BBC and ITV soaps during momentous occasions like EastEndersâ big 40th anniversary celebrations. It's a landmark week for soap fans as EastEnders toasts to its ruby milestone with a feast of episodes, including a live broadcast on Thursday.
Over on ITV turf, Emmerdale is delivering its own drama with a catastrophic limo plunge into a freezing lake poised to claim lives.
Yet, amidst the festivities, one viewer grumbled over the absence of camaraderie amongst the soaps, sharing on X (formerly known as Twitter): "I do wish there was more solidarity between the soaps, because it feels quite slimy that both Corrie and Emmerdale have got big event weeks, seemingly out of nowhere, that perfectly line up with EastEnders' 40th anniversary big week."
They elaborated on their point mentioning potential fallout for the viewership: "I doubt it'll end well, viewing figures wise, for either ITV soap, but especially Emmerdale which usually overlaps with Eastenders."
Diving into the discourse, writer Daran Little, who has been penning EastEnders scripts from 2010, chimed in: "When it was Corrie's 50th, I wrote Kat telling Dot she was going home to watch it," reports the Mirror.

Fans have spotted some blunders during the limo crash drama
Replying to Daran, one Twitter user asked the writer: "I hate to question the author but wasn't it Dot who was going to watch it...Kat said she'd rather watch the washing spin round in the machine..." Acknowledging his error, Daran admitted: "Oh you're right!!!! Oops."
Esteemed BAFTA-winner and TV scribe, Daran, known for his scripting finesse on Coronation Street, leapt from penning plots for Hollyoaks to spicing up the drama in EastEnders. His latest storytelling stint graced Albert Square earlier this month.
In a riveting reveal on tonight's episode of EastEnders, audiences finally discovered who was behind Cindy Beale's vicious attack - Kathy, her own mother-in-law, came clean about the Christmas Day scandal. Kathy spilled her grievance, confiding she lashed out at Cindy upon learning of her betrayal with Junior Knight: "I thought anything could happen, his heart but you know what, at least you were gone. At least he was safe from you," she disclosed. "Oh no - there you were, traipsing past the house. Back."
But the mayhem in Walford didn't end there - Cindy unwittingly sparked a fiery nightmare when she shoved Ian into the path of an oncoming car that careened into the Queen Vic, culminating in a spectacular blaze. With EastEnders fans glued to their screens, whispers of another dire event loom large - a potential train tragedy teased throughout the week has caused much speculation.
"The train sounds? ? ? #eastenders," pondered one viewer, indicating the mystery surrounding this hinted catastrophe isn't over, prompting another intrigued fan to query, "Did we ever find out what happened with the train stuff that was being teased around the time of Christmas/New Years? ? #Eastenders does anyone remember? ?"
