Elon Musk, Donald Trump's billionaire ally, joked Thursday that he isn't a Russian asset because Vladimir Putin "can't afford me."
The comments were made at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in National Harbor, Maryland.
During a sit-down interview with Newsmax's Rob Schmitt, Musk, wearing sunglasses, interjected during a question about Russia's war with Ukraine, and said, "People say, like, you know, 'I'm a bought asset of Putin?' I'm like, he can't afford me."
The remarks got a big laugh from the crowd as Schmitt responded, "I think you're worth more than Russia."
This is a developing news story and will be updated as more information is available.
