Katy Perry may find herself coming back down to earth with a thud after a number of celebrities tore into her for taking part in the Blue Origin mission, which they branded âgluttonousâ and âplanet destroyingâ.
The historic 11-minute flight carried the Roar hit-maker along with journalist Lauren Sanchez, broadcaster Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.
Blue Origin is owned by 61-year-old billionaire Amazon founder and commercial space flight entrepreneur, Jeff Bezos, who is engaged to Sanchez, 55.
Perry couldnât hide her delight after successfully completing the mission, but some of her peers were less than impressed.

Ahead of flight NS-31 taking off, actress Olivia Munn was among the first to voice her disdain, blasting the whole thing as âgluttonousâ due to the extraordinary cost for just 11 minutes in space, as she pointed out: âSome people can't even afford eggs!â
Model Emily Ratajkowski, 33, was next in line, taking to TikTok to say she was âdisgustedâ by the endeavour.
âThat space mission this morning? That's end time s**t. Like, this is beyond parody,â she fumed.
âThat you care about Mother Earth and it's about Mother Earth, and you're going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that's singlehandedly destroying the planet?â
She continued: âLook at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there?â

Adding: âAnd then to try to make it like... I'm disgusted, literally I'm disgusted.â
Comedian Amy Schumer was another person who joined in the furore by sharing clips of herself mocking the mission and pretending she was joining.
âGuys, last second they added me to space and I'm going to space,â she said in a video on social media as she held a Black Panther toy, which appeared to be a swipe at Perry, who brought a daisy to represent her daughter Daisy.
âI'm bringing this thing. It has no meaning to me, but it was in my bag and I was on the Subway, and I got the text and they were like, âDo you want to go to space?â so I'm going to space.
âThank you to everyone who got me here, I'll see you guys in space.â
A follow up clip saw her lying on a doctorâs office, where her speech was oddly slurred, suggesting she was under some sort of anaesthetic.
She said: âSo I'm going space. I'm so excited. Lauren Sanchez, Katy Perry and Amanda Nguyen have been my guiding lights through this whole journey, which I just got called to be part of the space team this morning - and I'm loving it.
âI've always wanted to go to space... and also I just want to say how high were the people who came up with the name for space, were they like âWhat should we call it? It's got so much like... space, you knowâ. And they were like âThat's it! Call it spaceâ And like... was that the best they could do? But okay I'm going there and I can't wait.â
After Perry and co had successfully landed, she was snapped kissing the ground.

This has since inspired countless online memes which appear to have caught the attention of director Olivia Wilde.
She shared one such meme on her Instagram Stories making it clear which side of the fence she sat on.
