Emmerdale's Tate family now from co-star romance to tragic death
The Tate family is arguably one of Emmerdale's iconic families and Kim is the only original member left in the ITV soap

The Tate family, a staple of Emmerdale since their introduction in November 1989, have certainly left their mark on the soap.
The family, led by patriarch Frank Tate and including his son Chris, daughter Zoe and wife Kim, were introduced during the show's rebranding from Emmerdale Farm to just Emmerdale. They brought plenty of drama and gripping storylines to the Dale.
Kim is the only original member of the Tate family still in Emmerdale. So where are the other actors now?
Frank Tate - Norman BowlerFrank, played by Norman Bowler, was the soap's first 'true' villain, known for his fiery temper and tendency towards domestic violence. Before Kim took over Home Farm, it was Frank who ruled the roost.
Frank Tate was in charge of the estate on EmmerdaleHis character met a dramatic end in 1997 when the shock of Kim's return caused him to suffer a fatal heart attack, marking one of the most iconic episodes of Emmerdale.
Following his exit from the soap, Norman spent some time doing charity work in India with his wife, Dianne, after leaving the soap. Following Dianne's death in 2012, Norman now splits his time between India and the UK.
Christopher 'Chris' Tate, the son of Frank and his first wife, Jean, was a classic character in Emmerdale. He had a tumultuous relationship with his stepmother Kim, vowing revenge after discovering she did nothing to save his father's life.

In 2001, he married his third wife, Charity Dingle, but their marriage was fraught with infidelity. In a shocking twist, Chris poisoned himself to frame Charity for his murder, dying in 2003.
Peter Amory, who played Chris, has since led a more private life, taking on minor roles in TV dramas. Interestingly, he married his on-screen stepmother, Claire King, who played Kim Tate, in 1994. They divorced a decade later but reportedly remain friends.
Zoe Tate - Leah Bracknell Leah Bracknell was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in October 2016 and died three years later (Image: Ken McKay/ITV/REX/Shutterstock)Leah Bracknell is best known for her role as Zoe Tate, Chris' sister and the only daughter of Frank and Jean. She made her debut in the Dales in 1989.
Her character made history in 1993 when she came out as gay, marking the first lesbian character in a British soap. Zoe left Emmerdale in 2006, and her departure was awarded Best Exit at The British Soap Awards.
After her departure from the show, the actress was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in October 2016. Her husband Jez Hughes set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her to receive treatment abroad due to limited options on the NHS.

The star tragically passed away three years later at the young age of 55. Recently, Emmerdale fans took to social media to fondly remember the late Leah Bracknell on what would have been her 60th birthday, paying tribute to the actress who made an unforgettable impact as Zoe Tate.
