Emotional Jamie Laing reaches Salford finish line for Red Nose Day challenge
'Running into everyone here in Salford, it is just the most touching, most beautiful thing'
Radio 1 star Jamie Laing has completed his impressive 150m challenge for Red Nose Day.
The TV star, who many will know from his appearances on Made In Chelsea and Strictly Come Dancing, completed his astonishing 150 mile journey from London to Salford on Friday afternoon (March 21) having battled through injuries and mental tolls where ‘30 years of emotions’ have ‘all been coming out this week’.
Article continues belowIt was announced this afternoon that the challenge had so far raised more than £2 million in donations. Crossing the finish line outside the Imperial War Museum North just after 5pm, Jamie, 36, said he felt like he had 'scored a gold at the World Cup'.
Just an hour before he had been due to arrive in Salford, Radio 1's Vick Hope and Greg James said on the radio station that he had to take a moment to rest on the physio bed and it was very doubtful whether he would have been able to finish.
Speaking to Greg, Jamie said: "I can't explain it, the last kilometre was the most euphoric thing I've ever had. It was a really hard day today. There was so many ups and downs. At one point, I thought I was down and out, and mentally, I had gone. Physically, I was broken.
"I I just didn't have anything left in me and I don't know what happened, something pulled me out and then we had this last moment here and running into everyone here in Salford, it is just the most touching, most beautiful thing that I've ever experienced in my entire life."
Throughout his UltraMarathon challenge, Jamie has had to seek medical attention. During his challenge yesterday as he headed into Bristol, he had to strip down to just his running vest to keep cool amid the rising temperatures.
He also feared he had broken his foot, leading to an ice pack being strapped on during the pit stop. Thankfully, it was a false alarm. Along the way he has been joined by a host of famous faces and close personal friends, including his dad Nick and wife Sophie Habboo.
Fellow Radio 1 presenter Greg also supported the cause by turning up earlier this afternoon in a wedding dress. The outfit of choice served as a tribute to his now-wife Bella proposing to him before he took on his very own Sports Relief challenge where he completed a triathlon a day for five consecutive days back in 2016.

Jamie’s challenge saw him travel through the likes of Kettering and Loughborough. Today, he started in Matlock in Derbyshire before venturing through Whaley Bridge and Stockport to make it to Salford ahead of Red Nose Day, which will air on BBC One this evening.
Asked what he wants people to take from the challenge, he said it has made him aware of the power of opening up. He spoke of his realisation: "What is more important and more powerful is saying, I have anxiety, I have OCD, I have depression, I have insomnia, whatever it is.
“And I've never really been honest about it before. And I have suffered and I do suffer, and that's okay, and it's way braver to talk about it than not talk about it and this week has made me realize that talking about things is the coolest thing in the world.
“Being vulnerable is the greatest thing in the world. Sing it from a rooftop, okay, Because that makes you brave and hiding it makes you weak, so don't hide it. Tell a friend, tell a partner, tell a loved one, ask people how they are all the time because I promise you it goes a long way. and thank you to everyone for this week. Thank you.
