While watching a concert in movie form isn’t quite like being at the real event, the crazy four-dimensional effects in Red Velvet’s new concert film are making it an immersive experience to remember.

The latest in a string of recent K-Pop concert movies, Happiness Diary: My Dear, ReVe1uv in Cinemas combines heartfelt behind-the-scenes stories from Red Velvet’s career with stage performances from their 2024 fancon tour, HAPPINESS: My Dear, ReVe1uv. Naturally, fans were already excited for the release this week, but 4DX technology is making it all the more thrilling.
Developed in South Korea, 4DX is a technology that enhances movies with motion-enabled seats and realistic environmental effects like wind, scents, and water. While it’s easy to imagine effects like these in an action movie, it’s hard to picture how they could work with a concert — but Korean fans who’ve already seen Happiness Diary have you covered.

Viewers have revealed that Joy’s solo dance for the group’s B-side “Underwater,” for example, takes the name literally.
According to fans, viewers are literally sprayed with water during the performance!
But seriously, guys, where exactly does the 4DX ‘Underwater’ part spray water from? I was so confused the whole time.

Plus, when Joy sings “blow the confetti” in chart hit “Feel My Rhythm” (which can also be translated as blowing the flower pollen), fans in the theater are blasted with the fragrant scent of flowers.
Even Joy herself was amazed by the effects in the movie, taking the fan-artist chat app Bubble to ask ReVeluv, “Why do they spray water during Underwater? Doesn’t the water smell weird?!”

The moving seats sound so funny [laughs]. Doesn’t it make you dizzy?? But still, with the flower petals and ‘Underwater’… they really took good care of me.

As if the sensory effects weren’t enough, fans say Happiness Diary in 4DX is such a full-body experience that you might as well be in the group yourself. Since the theater chairs move in sync with the beat of the music, multiple Korean viewers have said it feels like you’re the sixth member of Red Velvet.
You basically get to experience dancing with Red Velvet.
At this point, I am the 6th member.

And just like you’d see at a real concert, one fan revealed that “they even spray confetti.”
So, if you missed the chance to see Red Velvet (or any of your favorite artists) on their latest tour, a 4DX movie is a close second alternative — and for a fraction of the price!
Red Velvet’s Happiness Diary: My Dear, ReVe1uv in Cinemas is currently in the midst of a global rollout, with screenings across Asia, Europe, and North America from February 7th.
