Fearne Cotton opens up about therapy sessions following unexpected split
Fearne Cotton has opened up about her mental health struggles and revealed that she attends therapy sessions every week as she 'falls into self-loathing' and 'berates herself'.
Fearne Cotton candidly revealed that she never skips her weekly therapy sessions, as they are essential to her battle against self-loathing and negative self-talk.
The 43-year-old broadcaster compiled insightful clips on therapy and mental well-being for the latest installment of her Happy Place podcast, aiming to encourage others to seek mental health care. Fearne said candidly: "It's something I definitely don't wanna miss, don't feel like I could miss, actually."
"It's difficult to put into words how monumental it has been. A lot of my struggles stem from issues in my past which still affect me, and therapy provides me with strategies to find some semblance of peace.
"We all have our patterns and habits; sadly, mine includes being incredibly harsh on myself."
In a powerful admission, the beloved TV presenter shared with her audience: "I can be a right a**ehole to myself internally and berate myself and fall into self-loathing. Some of that is related to the past", reports the Mirror.
She went on to explain how therapy prevents her from descending into negativity: "Therapy helps me not fall into a self-loathing spiral. It's helped me massively. I'll say it's changed my life, actually."
This heartfelt reveal follows shortly after Fearne opened up about embracing a "new era" in her life post her unexpected split from Jesse Wood. In December, she took to social media with the startling news that her decade-long marriage had come to an end.
Fearne, mother to an 11 year old son named Rex and an eight year old daughter called Honey with Jesse, expressed her excitement for the future during a conversation with wellness brand Ancient + Brave, with whom her popular podcast Happy Place has partnered.
Speaking about her "new era", Fearne explained: "With my kids a bit older, I feel I'm in a new era. It's simple things like walking if I'm back-to-back recording or I'm on a writing deadline, if I can get an hour's walk at some point in the day where I just listen to really beautiful music, it makes me feel really happy."
The radio DJ and podcast host went on to say, "That is usually enough to reset me somewhat. What I'm trying to do now is go "no." I need to schedule in a bit of fun and let loose a little bit.
"That for me is balance because the balance had tipped the other way for me where everything was a schedule. Having joyful moments of fun with people that I love is something that I'm really getting back, and it feels so good."
