Ferdinand disagrees with Amorim's VAR penalty verdict in dramatic Everton draw
Manchester United rescued a point against Everton in the Premier League after a late penalty for the hosts was overturned by VAR
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has disagreed with Ruben Amorim's opinion on the controversial decision to deny Everton a penalty in stoppage time at Goodison Park.
United were abysmal in the first half and were deservedly 2-0 down after goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure. However, from somewhere, the Reds managed to rally and after Bruno Fernandes' stunning free-kick, they equalised through Manuel Ugarte's fierce strike.

All that hard work looked to be for nothing in stoppage time when Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt looked to have combined to bring Ashley Young down in the area. Initially, referee Andy Madley chose to award a penalty but after consulting his monitor, on recommendation by VAR Matt Donohue, he chose to overturn the penalty.

The decision led to boos at full-time from the home fans but Ruben Amorim was adamant that the decision was correct in the end. "I think it was a soft penalty, it was clear," he told reporters at full-time.
However, that was not the view of Ferdinand who was fearing the worse. "I saw VAR getting involved and the referee go over to the monitor and I was surprised it wasnât given to be honest," the former centre-back told TNT Sports.

"He had his arms around Ashley Youngâs waist did Harry Maguire. And when you put your hands on people, you give the referee a chance to make a decision."
Having eventually drawn the match, United were left 15th in the Premier League table having accumulated 30 points from 26 matches.
