FORMER RANGERS and Celtic kid Liam Burt has caused a social media storm in Ireland.

The Scotland youth international, now 26, launched an astonishing rant on Instagram taking aim at former club Shamrock Rovers and TROLLING them ahead of a huge Dublin derby with Shelbourne.

Burt, who switched Old Firm allegiance TWICE as a youth player, moved across the city to Damien Duff's team last year on loan.

But after returning to Rovers then leaving last month he posted an online outburst accusing his old club of treating him "appallingly and disgracefully".

His exit by "mutual consent" was confirmed by the Dublin outfit on February 20.

However eight days later he let rip and blasted Rovers chiefs for failing to communicate his future and for their lack of contact during his Shelbourne loan spell, where he helped the club lift the league title.

The midfielder also claims Rovers made no effort to check on him after suffering an injury while out on loan.

Now Rovers have hit back - clarifying what they claim was a 'false and inaccurate accounts of events' in Burt's blast, which he posted on Instagram following Whatsapp messages.

He wrote: “Not once I was contacted checking up on how I was or how it was going.

“Not once was I contacted with a well done.

“And worst of all, since the season finished I have not been contacted once from yous about anything a plan for me, leaving me in no man’s land not knowing if I was coming or going and mentally challenged from what was happening.”

The messages have been deleted since they blew up on social media.

However Shamrock Rovers - bossed by former Falkirk and Dunfermline midfielder Stephen Bradley - responded and warned they were investigating options available to them following the oputburst.

The club said: "Shamrock Rovers F.C. has the following comment to make regarding social media posts by ex SRFC player, Liam Burt, on 28th February. The club feels that it is important that the false and inaccurate accounts of events, as set out by the player, be addressed.

"Prior to the recent mutual cancellation of the player’s contract, Liam underwent surgery on an injury picked up whilst playing on loan at Shelbourne in 2024. The surgery was performed in the UK by a leading specialist at the cost and expense of Shamrock Rovers.

"Liam is on record with the club stating his gratitude and thanks for the support he has received from the club during this period. This sentiment was also echoed by Liam’s advisors who are also on record for thanking Shamrock Rovers F.C. for their professionalism and approach to the player’s formal exit from the club.

"Shamrock Rovers F.C. is extremely disappointed by Liam’s highly inappropriate messages sent to our management team before our important fixture against Shelbourne F.C. last night – we note that these messages were only posted after the player received his financial settlement from the club in lieu of his mutual cancellation.

"We welcome the fact that the player has deleted his comments on social media, however we are reviewing all options available to the club in respect of any recourse we may take in addressing this situation.

Rovers and Shelbourne drew 1-1 on Friday night. Shamrock are back in action on Monday against Sligo Rovers.
