For people affected by Northeast Philly plane crash, deadlines to apply for relief are nearing
Impacted residents and businesses have until Wednesday to open Red Cross cases, or Friday to apply for a small business grants.
People impacted by the Jan. 31 plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia have a few more days to seek financial assistance from two major sources.
Applications for relief through the American Red Cross and a city-supported small business fund are due next week. People have until Wednesday, Feb. 26 to open a case with the Red Cross for potential monetary assistance, along with other services. Applicants can start the process by calling 1-800-733-2767.

The Merchants Fund has established a program with the city's commerce department to provide impacted owners up to $20,000. Their businesses must be located in Philadelphia, with a storefront or physical location and annual revenue under $1.5 million. Applicants must submit evidence of loss or damage — as well as their most recent tax return and a signed W-9 — by Friday, Feb. 28 at 11:59 p.m.
The One Philly Fund, a city relief program for survivors of the crash, will continue accepting applications for the foreseeable future. The form is available online.
The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, near the Roosevelt Mall at Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. A medical jet carrying six passengers, including a girl who had been receiving care at Shriners Children's Hospital, crashed 30 seconds after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport en route to Missouri. The girl and her mother were returning home to Mexico.
There were no survivors aboard the plane. A seventh person on the ground also died, and at least 22 people were injured.
Nearly a month after the crash, the city is winding down some emergency services. The mobile unit that has been stationed at 2301 Cottman Ave. will begin its departure at 4 p.m. Friday, though help will remain available at the community center at 7374 Edmund St. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Is Jang Hye Jin the reason why Roh Jeong Eui wound up leaving her village on “The Witch”?
Based on “Moving” author Kang Full’s webtoon of the same name, “The Witch” is a mystery romance about a woman who distances herself from the world due to tragedy and a man who refuses to give up on her.

On the previous episode of “The Witch,” Park Mi Jeong (Roh Jeong Eui) was traumatized by the abrupt deaths of multiple students who had crushes on her. Plagued by rumors that she was a “witch,” Mi Jeong decided to quit school and stay cooped up inside at home. Even then, her mysterious “curse” followed her, and her father tragically died after saving her from a venomous snake bite.
In a preview that aired at the end of the episode, it was revealed that it was not Mi Jeong’s idea to leave the village; instead, it turned out that she had been pressured to leave by the other villagers. Most shocking of all, Lee Dong Jin (GOT7’s Jinyoung)’s mother Mi Sook (Jang Hye Jin) was seen standing at the forefront of the group asking Mi Jeong to leave. Later, while lying in a hospital bed, Mi Sook confessed to her son, “I was the one who chased that girl away.”
As Mi Sook was always kind, friendly, and generous to not only her son but also her neighbors, her unexpected and seemingly uncharacteristic involvement in Mi Jeong’s departure raised the question of whether something else had happened in the village after her father’s death.
In newly released stills from the drama’s upcoming third episode, a remorseful Mi Sook brings up the incident with Mi Jeong, which had remained painfully buried in her heart. As she lies in the hospital with Dong Jin by her side, Mi Sook catches her son off guard with her shocking confession—and what she has to say ultimately makes Dong Jin determined to figure out and undo the “curse” that afflicts Mi Jeong.
The drama’s production team teased, “This week, the heartbreaking reason why Mi Jeong had no choice but to leave the village—and why Dong Jin wants so badly to help Mi Jeong return to an ordinary life—will be revealed.”
“Dong Jin will begin to dig into Mi Jeong’s ‘pattern of death’ in earnest,” they continued. “The true mystery will begin starting from Episode 3.”
The third episode of “The Witch” will air on February 22 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
