talkSPORT understands that despite riches on offer in the Saudi Pro League Arabia, De Bruyne is keen to move to the US with San Diego currently the frontrunner.
The expansion side landed a major boost in November when Juan Mata came aboard as part of the ownership group ahead of the debut 2025 season.
A former Manchester United and Chelsea star, the 36-year-old Spaniard won the World Cup in 2010 and brings a huge contact book to the upstart, including former teammate De Bruyne.
Egyptian businessman and chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour, who owns Danish club FC Nordsjælland and the Right to Dream Academy, is head of the group.

Miami's move for Lionel Messi has allowed the franchise -- founded in 2018 -- to win honours ahead of more established outfits.
Sporting director Tyler Heaps is busy assembling a team, with USA midfielder Luca de la Torre on loan from Celta Vigo one solid addition.
But San Diego wants a marquee star to make an instant Messi-like impact and Mata is the ace in the deck.
De Bruyne only played nine games for Chelsea after arriving from Genk in his homeland in 2012. He played alongside Mata twice -- beating Arsenal and Swindon in the League Cup.
He was shipped out to Wolfsburg and quickly established himself as a potential star while in Germany before returning to the Premier League for a then-record fee for Man City of £55million.
The technician has since inspired City to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups and the Champions League.

De Bruyne confirmed his exit at the end of the season via an emotional statement on social media.
"Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading," De Bruyne said.
"So I'll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player.
"Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here - and you deserve to hear it from me first.
