FRIENDS guest star Brooke Shields has revealed the cast had loads of inside jokes and that someone even pulled a stunt that would get them ‘cancelled’ today.
Actress Brooke, 59, who played Joey Tribbiani’s obsessed stalker Erika in season two of the iconic sitcom, opened up on The View about how she tried to win over the close-knit cast by mimicking one of Matthew’s on-set antics.

She said: "You go onto a show that’s so well-oiled and so successful, and I was such a fan... all I wanted was for them to like me.
"I just wanted to be funny, but I wasn’t in the group, you know? They were very tight. They had all these inside jokes.”
Brooke explained that she noticed one of Matthew’s signature stunts during filming.
“He would — you couldn’t do it now, you’d get cancelled — he would run and throw himself on the floor in front of a girl and pretend to look up her skirt,” she said, as the hosts of The View laughed.
“Again, you’d get cancelled today.”
Hoping to break the ice, Brooke decided to mimic the gag.
“I ran so fast from one end of the stage all the way to the other, threw myself on the ground, and pretended to look up his pant leg,” she said.
“And everybody was quiet, and I’m on the floor thinking, ‘I just suck! This is so… I look like a crazy person!’”

"For what felt like “an hour,” Brooke waited for a reaction. Then, Matthew burst into laughter, and the rest of the cast joined in.
“He said, ‘How did you know to do that?’” she recalled. “And I said, ‘I’ve just been watching you and I just wanted to say thank you for giving us such humor.’”

Although the stunt helped her connect with the cast, Brooke revealed that it came at a cost. “The rug burns!” she said. “I had rug burns all over my knees!”
Brooke’s character Erika appeared in the two-part episode “The One After the Superbowl,” where she dates Joey, mistakenly believing he’s actually his Days of Our Lives character, Dr. Drake Ramoray.
The storyline escalates as the group devises a scheme to convince Erika that Joey is Drake’s evil twin brother, Hans, to end the relationship.
The double-length episode featured several guest stars, including Chris Isaak, Julia Roberts, Dan Castellaneta, and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
In October 2023, Matthew was found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home after he suffered acute effects of ketamine and drowning at age 54.
It’s since been claimed that he splurged £41,000 ($55,000) a month on the illegal substance, which is a Class B in the UK, and took between six and eight shots per day.
An investigation into how the star, who played Chandler Bing in Friends, accessed such high quantities of the drug led to the arrest of five people last year.
