Katy Perry sang a special song in space.
Gayle King revealed that Katy Perry sang a special song while in space. In a live stream, the “CBS This Morning” host revealed that the pop singer belted out the Louis Armstrong classic “What a Wonderful World” during their journey into outer space. Perry previously promised that she would sing.
In a video shared via Instagram on April 13, Perry teased, “I think I’m gonna sing, sing a little bit. I gotta sing in space!”
Perry and King are part of the all-female Taking Up Space Crew, which launched early on April 14. They were joined by aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez.
Perry previously performed “What a Wonderful World” for an iHeart Radio Living Room concert. When deciding what song to sing in outer space, something made her turn to the 1967 Armstrong classic.
“I’ve covered that song in the past and obviously my higher self is always steering the ship because I had no idea that one day I’d be singing that song in space,” she told reporters on April 14, per The Independent.
