The record arrives shortly after Lil Wayne announced his upcoming album Tha Carter VI
At the end of Geloâs music video for his debut single âTweaker,â the burgeoning artist teased his next single, âCan You Please?â But before he moves onto something new, the athlete-turned-rapper LiAngelo Ball locked in for the official âTweakerâ remix, which gets an assist from Lil Wayne.
The remix arrives shortly after Wayne announced his upcoming album Tha Carter VI, which Rolling Stone confirmed is scheduled to arrive on June 6.
Gelo getting a co-sign from a rapper of Wayneâs legend and caliber is a promising sign for where his career might be heading off the court. In 2023, Wayne told Rolling Stone about his longevity providing him with the opportunity to go head-to-head with the rising generations of rap artists who grew up listening to him.
âThe motivation isnât to show them that Iâm still that dude, which I am. The motivation is to show them why Iâm still that dude,â Wayne said. âThatâs the motivation, because I want them to hopefully get something from that and they continue to still be whoever the dude or woman they are.â
Shortly after âTweakerâ arrived in January, Rolling Stoneâs Andre Gee noted that it could be a glimpse into the future of rap, writing: âSeveral times a year, hip-hop gets a viral moment that some see as harmless fun, some perceive as the decline of hip-hop tastemaking, and others view as a little of both. And while those aforementioned artistsâ breakout songs represented an eye to the future, âTweakerâ may just be a pastiche one-off â though LiAngeloâs teased a second single coming soon. Regardless, the song going from a viral would-be joke to the catalyst for a record deal shows where the industry is going.â
