Gene Hackman And Betsy Arakawa's Bodies Suggest They Have Been Dead For Days Or Weeks
Speaking on the Friday morning episode of "Today," the sheriff of Santa Fe County, New Mexico, Sheriff Adan Mendoza, shared new information about the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa.
He revealed that the timeline between when they died and when their bodies were discovered could possibly be several days or even weeks.
"It's very difficult to put a timeline together even with the help of the office of the medical investigator," Mendoza informed the public during the show, per the New York Post. "Just based on their body and other evidence on the body, it looked — it appears [that they were deceased for] several days, even up to a couple of weeks."

Investigation Remains Ongoing Into The Couple's Death
The authorities had earlier revealed that they had begun an investigation into Hackman and his wife's death despite not suspecting foul play.
As part of the investigation, they are tracing individuals whom the couple may have spoken to in the weeks before their death.
An autopsy is also being carried out on the bodies, which the sheriff believes will reveal key information about the deaths.
"There's no indication that anybody was moving about the house or doing anything different, so it's very hard to determine if they both passed at the same time or how close they passed together," Mendoza spoke further about the death of the couple.
He added, "We're trying to put that information together … and I think the autopsy report is going to be key to this investigation."

The Couple' Possibly' Died Due To A Gas Or Chemical Leak
Meanwhile, Santa Fe Fire Chief Brian Moya, who joined Mendoza on the show, suggested that some type of gas or chemical leak may have caused the couple's death.
"That was a home with natural gas in it, so it could have [played a factor in their deaths]," Moya revealed on the show.
He continued, "There's a lot of unanswered [questions] there. When we arrived, we made sure our people as well as the sheriff were safe, and there was nothing that we found. We also went back again yesterday to do another round of searches … and we didn't find anything as well."
Moya's claims follow earlier comments from Hackman's daughter, Elizabeth Jean, who shared that the cause of death might be toxic fumes, per TMZ.
