Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa exhibited no signs of "trauma" during an autopsy.
The pair, along with their cherished German Shepherd dog, were found dead at their residence in Santa Fe, New Mexico, by two maintenance workers. An ongoing investigation into their deaths is underway, but there are no indications of foul play.
Betsy was discovered on the bathroom floor, with a bottle of prescription pills strewn across a countertop. At present, it's uncertain what the pills were or whether they had been prescribed to Betsy or Gene.
Gene was located in a mud room adjacent to their kitchen.
Betsy, aged 63, was found in a state of decomposition, with facial bloating and mummification of her hands and feet. Gene was found in a similar condition, reports the Mirror.

A subsequent autopsy ruled out any external trauma to both the actor and his late wife.
Police âobserved a pair of feet and legs on the ground near the kitchen areaâ which they found to be Hackman. The report states he was in âthe mud room.â
It reads: âThe deceased male who was found wearing gray sweat pants, a blue in colour long-sleeve t-shirt, brown slippers, and walking-cane. Deputy Thomas indicated he observed a pair of sunglasses located near the decedent's left of his body. Based on Deputy Thomas' training and experience he suspected the male individual has suddenly fallen. Deputy Thomas advised the male decedent also showed obvious signs of death, similar and consistent with the female decedent.â
Close to where Betsy lay, a space heater was found, leading investigators to ponder if it might have toppled over. In a separate area, Hackman's body was located in a mudroom adjacent to the kitchen, as noted in a search warrant document.
A statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office read: "In the early hours of Thursday, February 27 2025, Hackman and Arakawa were transported to the Office of the Medical Investigator. An autopsy was performed. Initial findings noted no external trauma to either individual."

The official results of the autopsy and toxicology reports are pending. This remains an open investigation.
New Mexico Gas Company conducted tests on the gas lines within and surrounding the property, as detailed in a search warrant. Although no issues were detected, a detective highlighted that symptoms of exposure to gas leaks or carbon monoxide might not always be evident.
The discovery of Gene and Betsy's bodies was made by two maintenance workers, who noticed the couple had been absent for several weeks.
The esteemed Superman actor, an Oscar laureate, was discovered fully clothed with his sunglasses next to him, suggesting he may have fallen suddenly.
Firefighters were among the emergency personnel called to the scene, yet no signs of a gas leak were found.
Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed that the pair passed away around midnight on Thursday 27 February and told The Santa Fe New Mexican: "I want to assure the community and neighbourhood that there's no immediate danger to anyone." A search warrant acquired by TMZ included a statement from the official who applied for it, indicating a belief "the death of the two deceased individuals to be suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation".
The family of Gene and Betsy was left reeling from their untimely demise, with his daughters Elizabeth and Leslie, alongside granddaughter Annie, expressing how much he will be "sorely" missed and their utter devastation at the news.
In a heartfelt tribute released to the PA news agency, they shared: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy. He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us he was always just dad and Grandpa. We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.
Leslie also spoke to MailOnline, revealing there was "no indication" of any health issues plaguing Gene prior to his passing.
She remarked: "Despite his age, he was in very good physical condition," and noted that her father hadn't undergone any major surgeries in recent months. "He liked to do Pilates and yoga, and he was continuing to do that several times a week. So he was in good health."
Leslie revealed that due to her residence in California, it had been "a few months" since she last had contact with her father Gene, who had become increasingly reclusive during his later years with his wife. The retired actor led a reserved and private existence alongside his wife Betsy.
"We were close. I hadn't talked to them for a couple months, but everything was normal and everything was good," Leslie recounted.
