Police have now requested a search warrant for Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa's home where they were found dead as they revealed where the couple's bodies were found.
The mystery surrounding the deaths of silver screen icon Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa has deepened as new revelations emerge, which the police have branded "suspicious".
Hackman, 95, and Betsy Arakawa, 64, were found dead in their Santa Fe home in New Mexico along with their dog on Wednesday afternoon with their bodies officially being identified in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to police.

The couple's bodies were found in different rooms of their home, according to The New York Times, casting an unusual aspect on the case, according to a sheriff involved with the inquiry, who referred to the situation as 'not typical'.
The police have said it is currently an "active investigation" but they do not believe that foul play was a factor at this time, although they have branded the circumstances as "suspicious".

Police have since requested a search warrant for the Santa Fe home, the Mirror reports.
According to TMZ, the detective who asked for the search warrant has written in his affidavit that he thinks that "the death of the two deceased individuals to be suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation".
It continues to say that the reporting party "found the front door of the residence unsecured and opened".
â
They added: "deputies observed a healthy dog running loose on the property, another healthy dog near the deceased female, a deceased dog laying 10-15 feet from the deceased female in a closet of the bathroom, the heater being moved, the pill bottle being opened and pills scattered next to the female, the male deceased being located in a separate room of the residence, and no obvious signs of a gas leak".
Another sombre find was one of their pet dogs deceased in a kennel, while two more survived, says the US outlet.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza has confirmed the absence of any suicide note or clear trauma signs on their bodies, noting that: "At this stage in the process there isn't anything obvious like that."
He added that they await further details from the post-mortem examination. The sheriff's office confirmed: "When we entered the house, safety checks were done by the fire department and gas company."
Sheriff Mendoza stated: "We're not going to guess this was an accident or natural causes. It wasn't typical."

As speculation mounts amongst fans globally about the events within the Hackman's New Mexico home, authorities maintain there is no sign of criminal activity.
Sheriff Mendoza offered reassurance stating: "I want to assure the community and neighbourhood that there's no immediate danger to anyone."
