CCTV in this area will also be checked as well as their phone records to understand who they may have last spoken to before they died. Now what doesn't help is the fact that they lived such a private life so as you can imagine, a lot of people here in this community are still grappling with the news."

It comes after an autopsy report of the couple shows 'no signs' of trauma. Betsy was found lying on their bathroom floor with an open bottle of prescription pills scattered across a countertop. Currently, it remains unclear what the pills were and if they had been prescribed to Betsy or Gene. Meanwhile, Gene was found in a mud room off their kitchen.
Betsy, 63, was found decomposing with bloating to her face and mummification on her hands and feed. Meanwhile, Gene was found in a similar state of decomposition. An autopsy has since been carried out which ruled out any external trauma to both the actor and his late wife.
The two-time Oscar-winning actor led a reclusive life with his wife Betsy before their deaths. Gene was one of the best talents to ever grace the silver screen, known for his powerful performances in iconic films like The French Connection and Unforgiven. The award winning actor last appeared in a film in 2004 and confirmed he had retired in 2008.
After an impressive acting career spanned more than four decades, Gene made the conscious decision to step away from the spotlight, opting for a quieter, more solitary life. Since then, Gene has lived a reclusive life in Santa Fe, far removed from the flashing cameras and Hollywood parties that once defined his career. His decision to leave film was unexpected, particularly considering his talent and the popularity of his roles. Gene, however, has made it clear that the pressures of fame no longer interested him, and he preferred the peace and privacy that his new life offered.

"I was trained to be an actor, not a star. I was trained to play roles, not to deal with fame and agents and lawyers and the press," he once said. "It really costs me a lot emotionally to watch myself on-screen. I think of myself, and feel like I'm quite young, and then I look at this old man with the baggy chins and the tired eyes and the receding hairline and all that."
In recent years, Gene has been seen only occasionally. He was last spotted in public in a rare outing at a 7-Eleven in New Mexico, where he grabbed an apple pie and coffee in March last year. This appearance came just days after he was seen with his wife, Betsy, in public for the first time in two decades. The couple, married since 1991, rarely made public appearances, adding to Hackmanâs desire for privacy.
