Gene Hackman's daughter makes heartbreaking admission over his death
Gene Hackman's daughter, Leslie, has spoken out about his tragic death alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa, who were found at their New Mexico home on Wednesday.
Leslie Hackman, the daughter of legendary actor, Gene Hackman, has spoken out for the first time following the sudden and mysterious passing of her father and his wife, Betsy Arakawa.
The couple, along with their dog, was found deceased at their New Mexico home on February 26, as confirmed by Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza.
â
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have stated that they do not suspect foul play at this time, and two other dogs were found alive on the property.
Some family members have speculated that carbon monoxide poisoning might be the cause of the tragic deaths, the Mirror reports.
â
The Santa Fe County Sheriff's office released a statement, saying: "We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail. This is an active investigation â however, at this time we do not believe that foul play was a factor."
Leslie, 58, has now shared her thoughts on her father's passing, revealing that the family is still trying to come to terms with what happened.
In a poignant admission, she stated that "there was no indication that there was any problem" with her father prior to his death, leaving the family with many unanswered questions.
â
She shared with Mail Online: "Despite his age, he was in very good physical condition." She revealed that her father had not undergone any significant surgeries in recent months, adding: "He liked to do Pilates and yoga, and he was continuing to do that several times a week. So he was in good health."
Leslie, who resides in California, admitted it had been 'a few months' since she last saw or heard from her dad as he had become increasingly withdrawn in his later years. Gene lived quietly with his wife Betsy, 64.
â
She said: "We were close. I hadn't talked to them for a couple months, but everything was normal and everything was good".
The reclusive pair, Gene and his wife Betsy, were discovered in a partially-mummified state inside their mansion with prescription pills scattered around their bathroom, as per various reports.
An arrest warrant, as detailed by Mail Online, noted that Arakawa, 64, was found with signs of decomposition including facial bloating and mummification on her hands and feet.
â
The warrant also mentioned that sheriffs observed Hollywood actor Hackman showing similar signs of decomposition as his spouse.
When two maintenance workers, Roland Lowe Begay and Jesse Kesler, arrived at an expansive Santa Fe property on Wednesday afternoon, they were confronted with the shocking scene of Arakawa and her husband's lifeless bodies, marking the time at 1:46pm Mountain Time.
â
Authorities refrained from confirming the identities of the couple for almost 12 hours. The recently disclosed details about the scene might explain why this information was initially kept under wraps.
According to Begay and Kesler, they hadn't seen the pair in roughly two weeks. The evidence suggests that the couple had been dead for a while before they were discovered.
Arakawa was found on the bathroom floor, near an open prescription bottle with pills strewn across the counter. Officials have not yet clarified what kind of medication was present or whether it belonged to Arakawa or her husband.
â
A space heater was found near her head, leading investigators to consider if it may have toppled over. Hackman's body, on the other hand, was found in a mudroom close to the kitchen, as outlined in the search warrant.
The Oscar-winning Superman actor was fully clothed, with his sunglasses lying next to him - a detail suggesting he may have collapsed suddenly. Emergency services, including firefighters, were called to the property, but no signs of a gas leak were found.
Earlier on Thursday, Hackman's daughter, Elizabeth, speculated that carbon monoxide poisoning could have caused the deaths of her father and stepmother.
â
One of the couple's three dogs, a German Shepherd, was tragically found lifeless in a closet near the bathroom, roughly 10 to 15 feet from Betsy's body. Early reports incorrectly claimed that the dog had perished inside a kennel.
The pair's other two dogs were unscathed. One of the surviving dogs was discovered close to Betsy's remains, while the other was spotted roaming the property.
â
Investigators observed that the front door was slightly open, but there was no evidence of forced entry. The Santa Fe Sheriff's Department has currently dismissed any suspicion of foul play, although the investigation is ongoing.
