Giant ‘fatberg’ forces Grammy-winning singer to cancel concert
Grammy Award-winning singer Bryan Adams was forced to cancel a concert Sunday in Australia due to a giant fatberg that authorities warned could cause the venue’s toilets to overflow.
PERTH, Australia -- A large fatberg forced singer Bryan Adams to cancel a sold-out concert in Perth, Australia, on Sunday night after authorities warned the sewage could cause the venue’s toilets to overflow, posing a potential health risk for attendees.
A “fatberg,” a combination of the words “fat” and “iceberg,” is a rock-like mass of waste often comprised of grease and personal hygiene products.
Adams was set to perform at RAC Arena as part of his “So Happy It Hurts” tour, before the show was canceled hours before it was scheduled to begin.
‘We regret to advise that tonight’s performance by Bryan Adams is postponed due to an external Water Corporation water supply issue to RAC Arena which could not be resolved,” Frontier Touring said in a statement Sunday. “All existing ticketholders will be notified by email of an update as soon as possible and need not take any action at this point in time.”

Water Corporation issued a statement advising people near RAC Arena to “avoid contact with any pooled water in the area of Wellington Street, Perth, as it may be sewage following a major blockage on a sewer main along Wellington Street.”
“As a priority, our crews are working to clear the large blockage of fat, grease and rags, which has caused several wastewater overflows at properties along Wellington Street,” the company said. Water Corporation later issued a separate statement saying the blockage was cleared around 11:15 p.m. Sunday.
Adams issued a statement apologizing to fans for the canceled concert in Western Australia.
“I’m really sorry we couldn’t make this happen tonight—I was so looking forward to seeing you all,” Adams wrote in a Facebook post Sunday. “I appreciate your patience and support and can’t wait to be back and play for you as soon as we can reschedule.”
On Monday, however, Frontier Touring announced that Adams’ concert is “unable to be rescheduled.”
“The cancellation of show is bitterly disappointing, and we thank fans for their understanding that while every effort was made for the show to proceed, this matter was outside of the control of Bryan Adams, Frontier Touring and RAC Arena,” Frontier Touring said in a statement.
Adams’ next stop on his “So Happy It Hurts” tour is scheduled for Feb. 12 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.
