GBBO presenters announce Gloria Hunniford's exit
Gloria Hunniford has come forward with the reason behind her unexpected exit while filming Great Celebrity Bake Off.
The Loose Women star, 85, had seemingly vanished towards the end of the show, prompting presenter Alison Hammond to mention that she was "not feeling very well".
However, Gloria revealed to the Mirror that she had actually suffered a "terrible fall" backstage, which led to her being taken to the hospital for precautionary checks.
Despite missing the final judging round, Gloria expressed no regrets about participating in the show. "I had a terrible fall at the end of the programme, so I never got to finish it," she explained.
Gloria was pleased with her dice cake, considering it was her first baking attempt. The theme was inspired by her father, and the recipe was her mother's, which she had practiced at home and even made for her son's birthday.
"I thought my dice cake looked pretty good! For me, it looked amazing, considering I'd never baked before. And the theme was inspired by my dad, it was my mother's recipe, which I really liked. I practiced it at home, and gave it to my son for his birthday, so it really tied in with the family theme. I don't think I would have won, but I was really pleased with it," reports the Mirror.

Fortunately, Gloria was found to be fine and has since appeared on TV multiple times following the episode's recording for Stand Up to Cancer last summer.
Meanwhile, Ghosts star Jim Howick took home the coveted Star Baker apron, largely thanks to his impressive drum-kit showstopper, leaving viewers wondering what had happened to Gloria.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, she explained her absence: "Hi everybody, I just wanted to say how much I really, really enjoyed being on Bake Off.

"It was fun, it was interesting meeting Paul, it was a great experience - and, not having baked before, it actually taught me quite a lot.
"It was a real shame that I missed being there for the showstopper because, unfortunately, I had a fall and ended up in hospital for some screening - but I was fine.
She also expressed her admiration for the show and its charitable cause, saying: "And I wanted to say as well that I am a great, great supporter not only of the programme, which I adore, but also of Stand Up to Cancer because not only, sadly, did I lose my gorgeous daughter to cancer but last year, very sadly as well, I lost my husband Stephen. So cancer is very foremost in our family in terms of support. And I think that the programme, and what it does through the programme, is absolutely brilliant."
Her words sparked an outpouring of well-wishes from fans, with one commenting: "To endure the loss of her daughter and husband to cancer is unimaginable. To be transported to the hospital during competition is frustrating. So glad she is doing okay. Her resilience is amazing. Gloria, you are one tough cookie!"
In the final challenge, the four contenders—comedian Jamali Maddix, model Ellie Goldstein, and participants Glorian and Jim—were given the task of baking a cake that represented their "best kept secret".
During the showstopper round, Gloria paid homage to her father, a journalist with a hidden talent for magic, by saying: "My dad, although he was a newspaper man by day, was a magician by night. I'm trying to do my dad justice, I think he'd love to look down and think 'oh my gosh, you're doing that in my memory."
However, as the audience eagerly anticipated the verdict from judges Paul Hollywood and Caroline Waldegrave on Gloria's creation, she mysteriously disappeared.

Host Alison Hammond clarified that Noel Fielding would step in for the judging as Gloria was "not feeling very well", while Paul quipped that he resembled "the child-catcher" donning the top hat used by Gloria as part of her act.
The episode also featured some light-hearted exchanges between Gloria and Hollywood, including a moment where she inquired about his suntan, to which he sharply replied: "No! I've just been to the Maldives."
And when Hollywood described her brandy snaps as "gritty", she retorted with a witty comeback that left him chuckling: "A bit like you."
