Gogglebox fans point out 'weird' BBC 'snub' on Channel 4 show
Stars of Channel 4's Gogglebox were back to discuss another week of telly but fans noticed a lack of BBC shows.
Fans of Gogglebox tuned in to Channel 4 this evening to watch their favourite couch-based critics share their thoughts on this week's telly. The fan-favourite show featured clips from shows such as ITV's Britain's Got Talent and Coronation Street, Channel 4's The Fear Clinic and Claudia Winkleman's new show One Question.
However as viewers at home watched on, they noticed a "weird" thing about the episode - some noted that the Channel 4 show was remarkably void of BBC shows. Taking to social media, they pointed out the "snub" as they asked why more BBC programmes had not been featured.
One fan wrote on X, also known as Twitter: "They never put bbc1 or bbc2 clips to show. Why? #Gogglebox." While others noted the absence of BBC soap EastEnders - despite the show celebrating 40 years on screen with special episodes this week.
Another fan commented: "Weird that gogglebox havenât shown EastEnders for itâs 40th anniversary #Gogglebox," while one more echoed: "#gogglebox not reacting to any #Eastenders is so weird."
Someone else shared: "I was expecting #gogglebox to feature #eastenders this week."
The familiar faces on Gogglebox, including the Malones and Warner sisters, all have to adhere to strict rules while filming the Channel 4 show.
For example, the Gogglebox stars will often be seen sipping on a drink throughout the episode but they are not permitted to be drunk while filming for Channel 4.
Producers are said to have implemented the rule so that cast members wouldn't get drunk and slur their words on camera.
Former star Tom Malone Jr, once told the press: âWe werenât allowed to order or drink alcohol, because I donât think the show would work if we were all there slurring our words.â
Following her exit in 2021, Paige Deville said the show was a âpantomime behind the scenesâ.
The 27-year-old explained that she got filmed watching things three times so the crew could get a range of responses and not accidentally miss out on anything.
She added that the cast members were also under strict instruction to pay attention to what was on the screen and couldn't spend the show looking at their phones.
Alongside the rules and regulations, the Gogglebox stars do enjoy the added monetary bonus of being on screens. Although Pete Sandiford previously stated that the wage isn't enough to quit their jobs, they do get treated to takeaways during filming days.
