Born and raised in Grande Prairie, Mariah Braun is working to showcase the amount of talent we have here in this region on her podcast “Creating North of 55”.
She’s ventured into multiple areas, starting up M3M Marketing, an agency that assists business owners, is an indie filmmaker, and as of November, is a podcast creator.
“Creating North of 55” features creatives on their career path, usually in northwestern Alberta. She’s currently focused on this region, anything above the 55th parallel which we sit on, and in the future, she plans to venture further up north.
Braun said it came about “because there’s just this misconception, I feel, in medium-sized or more rural areas that you can’t have a creative career path.”

“Especially how everything’s kind of evolved, I feel like that kind of story that we tell ourselves is just incorrect, the fact that we’re telling kids that they have to maybe move to Vancouver, or a bigger city like Toronto–even Edmonton in order to pursue their career aspirations in the creative field.”
M3M Marketing opened a content studio in 2023, and this made the amount of talent around here even more apparent to Braun.
“They also get this platform for themselves to kind of share what they do creatively and share their talents, and hopefully get themselves business out of it.”
One of Braun’s interviewees was podcast host Lindsay Janes of “Disturbing the Peace”, which focuses on mysteries, true crime, paranormal activity, and history in the Peace Region.

“The views [for “Creating North of 55”] started to climb, so we’re up to like 500 views on that one. We just had it out three weeks ago–for an entry level podcast, I feel like it’s having a lot of organic growth already, which is really great.”
Braun said it’s a way for their conversations they have in the industry to be brought to an audience. “I’ve been in the industry for seven years, but I’m still learning sometimes, sharing experiences with other creatives and getting their perspective on things. The creative industry can be really broad.”
One of her career highlights was getting the training to be on set for The Last of Us when filming took place here in Grande Prairie. Based on the work she’d previously done in the film industry, she was able to be a production assistant.
On their marketing techniques, Braun said they help people navigate a constantly changing word in this industry. It’s also hard to find staff, so they provide support and give fresh ideas so the business doesn’t need to hire someone.
“We are kind of on the pulse of what’s going on locally, and we understand the local audience.”
It’s all about storytelling, and they want to tell their client’s authentically. “I think storytelling is our strong suit. Video production is the real human side of the marketing world, it’s really where we shine.”
