Harry Potter’s Simon Fisher-Becker Dead at 63 - E! Online

The Harry Potter fandom is in mourning.
Simon Fisher-Becker, who memorably played Hufflepuff House's resident ghost The Fat Friar in 2001's Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone, has died, his manager Kim Barry and husband Tony Dugdale both confirmed March 10. He was 63.
"Today I lost not only a client in Simon Fisher-Becker, but a close personal friend of 15 years standing," Barry said in a statement to Metro. "I shall never forget the phone call I made to him when he was offered the part of Dorium Moldovar in BBC's Doctor Who."
"Simon was also a writer, a raconteur and a great public speaker. He helped me out enormously and was kind, gracious and interested in everyone," he continued. “My condolences go to his husband Tony, his brother, nieces and nephews and his legion of fans."
Fisher-Becker's husband Tony Dugdale also shared a brief statement on social media confirming his passing.
"Hello everyone. This is Tony, Simon’s husband,” he wrote on Facebook March 9. “I have some very sad news. At 2:50 this afternoon Simon passed away."

"I’ll be keeping this account open for a while," he added. "I’m not sure at this point if I’ll be posting again. Thank you."
As his manager alluded to, the veteran British actor also memorably played Dorium Moldovar during seasons five and six of Doctor Who starting in 2010. He would go on to reprise the role on the podcast series Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles in 2018 and Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles and Jenny—The Doctor’s Daughter in 2021.

Fisher-Becker was also known for playing Tony Fazackerley in BBC's 2014 series Puppy Love.
Following the news of his death, fans took to social media to honor the longtime character actor.
"A legend of Who both in show and in the community," one person wrote. "I never got to meet him properly, but friends who worked with him have nothing but lovely things to say. A real testament to his character. Farewell sir."
"Incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Simon Fisher-Becker today," another fan posted along with a photo with the actor. "An incredible actor and a gentleman to boot. Thank you always for your kind words, your friendship and making the convention circuit always a great place to be."
A third fan called attention to Fisher-Becker's frequent appearances at Doctor Who fan conventions.
"He was always a joy to meet at cons. A dear friend to all he knew," the fan wrote. "A delight to chat to, he lit up every room he was in and gave the best free hugs. Goodbye Dorium and thank you. Your service to the Doctor will never be forgotten."
