Prince Harry and Meghan Markle become the butt of the joke once again as comedian John Mulaney deals them a brutal blow ahead of the Netflix show. Itâs no longer news that Harry and Meghanâs deal with Netflix hangs by a thread, with the chances of the streamer renewing their contract between slim to none. The $100 million multi-year deal, signed in 2020 is set to end this year. However, a brief rundown of the Sussexesâ Netflix projects since the signing makes the contract seem like one failed overpriced investment, with Netflix at the losing end.
Comedian John Mulaney, notable for his hilarious skits on Saturday Night Live voiced this thought on Wednesday, during Netflixâs big reveal bash. John began by revealing the launch of his Netflix gig, Everybodyâs Live with John Mulaney, set to hit Netflix in March. The new gig, promoted as a talk show would feature various celebrity guests and other live-aired variety talk show antics spanning 12 weeks.

Still addressing the crowd, John Mulaney compared estranged royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, highlighting their now-shaky deal with Netflix and suggesting it was overpriced and spontaneous. He joked,
âThis is a really fun experiment. Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.â
John Mulaney then made another reference to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, noting that he had ânothing but goodwill on my side,â like the duo as he launched his Netflix show. He added,
âPeople are rooting for me left and right.â

With years of untapped details about their royal lives ripe for spilling, the couple received a big American welcome, snagging deals âleft and rightâ especially in the wake of their Oprah interview. Naturally, Netflix tapped into the opportunity, signing the mega-deal with the freshly-available royals. Five years down the line, the couple has released only a few projects as part of this deal to make the huge sum worthwhile.
Aside from the largely successful three-part docuseries Harry & Meghan, the duo has barely scratched the surface of potentially successful show ideas in the last few years. Prince Harryâs latest release, Polo, which delved into the professional world of the controversial sport, attracted vast criticism from animal lovers and viewers who deemed the Netflix show disappointing.
Meghan Markleâs upcoming cooking show, With Love, Meghan, could perform better than Prince Harryâs polo documentary with all the hype surrounding it since Netflix offered a first look. However, the series, initially slated for a January 15 release date would now hit the streamer on March 4, after Meghan postponed it due to the blazing LA wildfires. Unless the show lives up to its reputation, Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, just might brace themself for yet another blow this year as Netflix pulls the plug.
