We can all agree that winter weather wreaks havoc on our skin. The chilly temperatures, low humidity and biting winds leave our skin feeling dry and sensitive, leading to unevenness and flaking when applying makeup.

If you're seeking a solution for flawless foundation, follow in the footsteps of Holly Willoughby who has been using a hydrating primer to maintain her fresh-faced look while presenting Dancing on Ice. Holly's makeup artist, Patsy O'Neill, revealed on Instagram that she's been using Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas, £25-£51, on Holly during filming to keep her skin hydrated and smooth.

Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas is the ideal base for your foundation, creating a smooth, moisturised and perfect canvas for your makeup. It contains thin layers of silk extracts which hydrate your skin and minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while silk powder allows your makeup to glide on more evenly and last much longer.

Unlike some hydrating primers or moisturisers, which can feel thick or heavy on your skin, Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas is lightweight and creates a fine layer between your makeup and your skin. It's also packed with skin-protecting ingredients that work as you wear it to shield your skin from pollutants.

The Liquid Silk Canvas promises to act as a magical barrier between your makeup and skin, stopping your pores from getting clogged which can lead to unpleasant breakouts. Not only will it give you a smoother complexion with a radiant glow, but it's also fab for toning down excess shine and boosting your look with a soft-focus effect. It also contains pink and gold pigments to brighten and even out your skin tone for that coveted healthy glow.

Tatcha's own research has shown an immediate improvement in skin tone and reduced visibility of pores and texture just moments after application. After two weeks, it's also said to visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Up for grabs at Sephora, you can grab a 10g bottle of Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas for £25 or go bigger with a 31g bottle for £51. But if you fancy going to the source, check it directly at the Tatcha website.

Shoppers are also praising the primer, with one satisfied customer sharing: "I bought this primer in small size to sample while travelling. It is simply amazing under makeup. Skin feels silky and smooth and my makeup stayed in place. Will be purchasing the large size. Fabulous product!"

Another chimed in: "This makes my foundation go on so smoothly and even. It's divine!"

Not everyone is sold on it, however. A user felt the need to express a bit of disappointment: "Wanted to like this but my skin is too mature. I find it drying. I can't use it under my eyes but do use it on my nose and eyelids before applying foundation."

However, yet another wrote: "This is amazing!! I dont feel dry or oily. I use Coola spf spray after my too faced peach foundation and my skin is awsome!! No breakouts, no dry spots. Thank you!!"

If the Tatcha primer's price tag makes you think twice, consider the Refy's Blur and Hydrate Primer as a wallet-friendly alternative at just £24. This gem not only blurs imperfections and controls oil but also preps your skin beautifully for makeup without going matte.

It boasts a gel-to-cream texture for a silky-smooth canvas and enhanced makeup longevity, plus a nifty roller ball tip to de-puff and tone as you apply. Packed with hyaluronic acid, it hydrates your skin, making it a dream for sensitive or parched winter complexions.

Meanwhile, Facetheory's Silicone-Free Smoothing Primer offers a steal at £15 for 30ml, ensuring a seamless, flawless base for your makeup sans silicones. It minimises pores and fine lines while safeguarding your skin from dehydration, keeping it hydrated and nourished all day, reports the Mirror.

AI experiment in halfpipe judging at X Games will give snowboarders a glimpse into the future - Sports

AI experiment in halfpipe judging at X Games will give snowboarders a glimpse into the future - Sports

The X Games will experiment judging halfpipe runs this week in Aspen using artificial intelligence, the cutting-edge technology that could someday play a role in the way subjectively judged sports are scored. Long a trendsetter in action sports, the X Games and its new CEO, freestyle skiing great Jeremy Bloom, teamed with Google founder Sergey Brin to build the technology. Using Google Cloud tools including Vertex AI, Bloom thinks this experiment has potential to change the game on halfpipes, then maybe on slopestyle courses, skating rinks and anywhere a judge is used to score a contest. “Part of subjective sports, we see it all over the place, is that even at their best, humans can get it wrong,” said Bloom, who was a freestyle skier at two Olympics while also playing college football at Colorado. “Sometimes getting it wrong has huge implications. What if we could give judges superpowers and they could see things they couldn't see with the human eye, and this technology could help inform them?” The specter of a judging mistake lingers over every high-stakes contest, and even with its more laid-back vibe, snowboarding, which is now a fixture in the Olympic program, is no exception. At the last Winter Games in Beijing, the sport narrowly avoided a potential scandal in the men's halfpipe final. Japan's Ayumu Hirano landed the most difficult trick in the sport — a triple cork — as part of a strong, top-to-bottom run, but was ranked behind another rider who didn't do the trick after two rounds. Snowboarding experts were aghast on social media. Had Hirano not pulled off the trick again on his third round, his score from Round 2 wouldn't have been enough for the gold medal he eventually won. In another episode, Canadian slopestyler Max Parrot acknowledged not grabbing his board on a run that earned him a gold medal, a key element that judges missed but that could be picked up on close review of the video. The AI at the X Games this week won't have any impact on the official scoring, but will be a gauge of what's possible in the future. Bloom said thousands of hours of halfpipe footage, along with the judging criteria, have been loaded into a system that will be shown on the TV telecast and be made available to the live judges. The AI will be programmed to watch haflpipe practice and predict the top three finishers. Then its powers will be used to judge and commentate on three different riders as they go down the halfpipe. “It's early days, but the technology sort of blows your mind,” Bloom said. “It's the power of what it can do when you give it clear direction. It's pretty amazing what this thing can do.” In snowboarding, judges look at elements like the height of the jumps, the difficulty of the tricks and how well they're executed. They ultimately deliver scores on a 100-point scale based on how runs stack up against each other. It's a nuance unlike figure skating or gymnastics, where individual tricks have specific point values. Bloom says all that is being taken into account as they work through the experiment. He does not envision a future with no human judges. “I don't think this replaces the judges, Bloom said, but I think it gives them power to ensure objectivity.” ___ AP Winter Olympics: https://apnews.com/hub/winter-olympicsAP
