How ABC Journalist Linsey Davis Chose Her "Very Demure" Oscars Red Carpet Look
Before stepping out on Oscars night as co-host of ABC's "On The Red Carpet" pre-show, anchor Linsey Davis talked to InStyle about her red carpet prep and her go-to style hacks.
Most days, journalist Linsey Davis is wearing sneakers, her go-to reporting shoe. Oscars Sunday is not most days, however, and Davis, who usually spends her weekend anchoring "World News Tonight" on ABC, is instead spending an evening out of her sneakers and in a sequined gown. "Itâs giving very classy, demure, and mindful," she tells InStyle.
Yesterday, Davis co-hosted the Oscars red carpet, where she interviewed some of Hollywood's biggest stars, alongside Whit Johnson for ABC's "On The Red Carpet" pre-show. In advance of the big night, she worked with three-time Emmy-winning stylist DiAndre Tristan, who's dressed her for the Academy Awards three years running. "This year, I think, he pulled about 25 gown options," she says.
Although her usual power uniform is a suit, the two-time Emmy-winning anchor goes for glamour on Oscars night, similar to the celebrity whose red carpet style she admires the most: Jennifer Lopez. The winning gown was a sequined white Monot column dress with satin bow adornments on the shoulders. She paired the dress with Dolce & Gabbana sandals and Benny the Jeweler bling. It's a big departure for Davis. "With the exception of special occasions, I typically donât wear clothes that are designer brands," she admits.
Davis must talk nonstop for hours during the red carpet preshow. If you're wondering if her social battery ever drains mid-show, she says, "It doesnât. The adrenaline keeps me going." Of course, a shiny gown and glimmering jewels help invigorate her. Before taking her spot in front of the camera, Davis talked to InStyle about her red carpet prep and her go-to style hacks.

"I am very no muss, no fuss. My favorite item of clothing may very well be a good pair of sweatpants. I like simple. Loose. Comfy. I think athleisure was created solely for me!"

"In the field, I want to be practical. I love an LL Bean utility jacket. You probably wonât see my feet in the field, but most likely, I am wearing sneakers. Iâm on the move. I need to be in something functional but polished as Iâm conducting interviews and shooting with the team. In the studio, I like bold colors that pop against the set to grab attention."

"I meet up with my stylist DiAndre Tristan, who has dressed me now for my third year on the Oscars red carpet. I love getting together with my glam team. We play music and go through each gown he has already selected. I like group consensus. So, I listen to their reaction when I put on each dress, but I also have to feel it myself. And comfort is still a priority."
"I binge all the movies and do my research on the nominees. My producer, Lindsey Griswold, gives me additional background research, which I print out and go to town with my yellow highlighter."Â

" '90s R&B!"
"Platform shoes are a must! And slippers immediately after the show."

"Too much makeup."
