How Donald Trump's youngest son Barron helped him scoop US election victory
The 18-year-old - who is thought to be at least 6ft7 - will be supporting his dad as he's sworn in as president for a second time today
Donald Trump's youngest son Barron proudly stood beside his dad as he declared victory in the US presidential election back in November after playing an important role during the campaign.
Today, the 18-year-old, the youngest of Trump's five children and the only one he shares with wife Melania, will be watching as his dad is sworn in as President of the United States for a second time, after serving his first term between 2017 and 2021.
The youngster was a hot topic during the campaign - and not just for his height, having shot up since his father's previous stint as president. Barron is thought to be around 6-foot 7-inches tall, towering over his dad, who is 6-foot 2-inches.
During Trump's latest campaign, Barron is believed to significantly helped his dad win over young voters by persuading him to appear on podcasts popular with his demographic. Mr Trump appeared on several podcasts popular among young people, dubbed the “bro” tour in American media.
Last year, Eric Trump - Trump's second son - confirmed his younger brother Barron persuaded his father to go on the podcast tour as part of efforts to win over Gen Z and millennial voters. Eric said the move contributed “a lot” to his increased vote share among young people, with Mr Trump winning the votes of 56 per cent of men aged 18 to 29.
Podcasts he appeared on included The Joe Rogan Experience – the biggest podcast in the world – as well as podcasts with internet personalities Theo Von and Logan Paul. He also sat down with Adin Ross, a friend of Andrew Tate, a self-described misogynist.
Speaking during a visit to the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire, Eric said the podcasts helped his father win over a new demographic. "He (Barron) was certainly the one that suggested he (Mr Trump) go on some of the very young podcasts," Eric said. “Obviously, Joe Rogan is one of the biggest podcasters in the world, so it’s not like this hadn’t occurred to us to go on Joe Rogan, but you know, he speaks to a different demographic in terms of voter, and now he (Barron) did certainly suggest a couple of the more millennial, or even younger generation-style, podcasts. Some of those were fantastic.”
He added: “My father did incredibly well with youth vote,” he said, “and he picked up segments of the vote that he had never picked up before. And I’m sure a lot of that was attributable the podcast circuit that he really committed to.”
Barron has lived between Florida, New York City and Washington DC and is currently studying at New York University after graduating from high school last May. He speaks fluent Slovenian, like his mum Melania.
