How George Clooney Initially Felt About His and Wife Amal Clooney's 17-Year Age Gap - E! Online
George Clooney admitted his 17-year age difference with wife Amal Clooney initially made him unsure of their long-term compatibility.

Age isnât just a number for George Clooney.
In fact, the 63-year-old initially thought his age would be a deal breaker when he met now-wife Amal Clooney, 47, in 2013.
âI didnât really think Iâd have much of a chance with her,â he told the New York Times in an interview published Feb. 20, âbecause I was 17 years older and she seemed to have everything she needed.â
Fortunately for George, things worked out with the human rights lawyerâwhom he married in 2014âand the couple went on to welcome twins Alexander and Ella in 2017. But as their kids, now 7, grow up, the Oceanâs Eleven star is aware heâs not getting any younger.
âI had this conversation with Amal when I turned 60,â he explained. âI said, âLook, I can still play full-court basketball. I can still run around. I can still do pretty much everything I did when I was 30. But in 30 years, Iâm 90.ââ

And as George pointed out, âthere are some things youâre not doing [at that age] no matter how many granola bars you eat.â
Which is why the Oscar winner intends to make the most of his good health for as long as he can.

âI told Amal, âWe have to focus on the next 20, 25 years of making sure that weâre jamming in everything we can,ââ he went on. âNot just work, because no one at the end of their life goes, âGod, I wish I worked more.ââ
As for Amal, she previously shared how she and George maximize family time while also balancing their professional obligations.
âWe both work from home as much as possible and we try not to spend too much time apart when we're traveling,â she told E! News in September. âSo we basically follow each other around the globe. We're lucky.â

And Heidiâwho married Tom the following yearâmade it clear she's going to continue living life on her terms.
"You have to just live a happy life without worrying too much about what people think," the supermodel continued, "because worrying is only going to give you more wrinkles."Â

Meanwhile, the Quantico star has called out a double standard.
While she noted people have a lot to say about her being 10 years old than the Jonas Brother singer, she suggested this wouldn't be the case if it were the other way around.
"People gave us a lot of s--t about that and still do," Priyanka told InStyle. "I find it really amazing when you flip it and the guy is older, no one cares and actually people like it."

And if you'd ask the Fifty Shades of Grey director, she'd say her 23-year age difference with the Kraven the Hunter actor just doesn't come up in their day-to-day.
âNo, it never does," she said in a 2024 interview with The Guardian. "I mean, itâs coming up now because youâre asking. And it comes up on the outside perspective of people who donât know us, because I guess people will always...Weâre a bit of an anomaly, but itâs that thing: After 14 years you just think, surely by now it doesnât really matter?â
Sam even pointed out her relationship with Aaron has lasted longer than her marriage to her ex-husband Jay Jopling, who is about four years older than she is.
"So, if you think of it in that way," she continued, "then the age gap doesnât really make any difference.â

This is when you find yourself and he needs to be able to do that.â
Still, she called their romance "the best relationship" of her life and expressed hope that Mark will realize their split was for the best.
"I know that one day he will look back and he will understand it," she added, "and I actually think one day he will thank me."
