After the Los Angeles wildfires postponed the nominations twice, Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang will announce the nominees for the 97th Oscars ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 23. The live presentation will commence at 5:30 a.m. PT and will stream live on Oscar.com and Oscars.org in addition to the Academy’s TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube platforms. ABC’s “Good Morning America” will also air the nominations with “ABC News Live” streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
Variety‘s senior awards editor Clayton Davis predicts that “Anora,” “The Brutalist,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Conclave,” “Dune: Part Two,” “Emilia Pérez,” “A Real Pain,” “Sing Sing,” “The Substance” and “Wicked” will all be nominated for best picture. At the Golden Globes, “The Brutalist” won in the drama category while “Emilia Pérez” won for musical or comedy. “Conclave” led the BAFTA Film Awards with 12 nominations, followed by 11 for “Emilia Pérez” and nine for “The Brutalist.”
Davis’ predicted nominees for best actor will include Adrien Brody (“The Brutalist”), Timothée Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”), Daniel Craig (“Queer”), Colman Domingo (“Sing Sing”) and Ralph Fiennes (“Conclave”). Brody won the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama, while Sebastian Stan took home the prize for best actor in a musical or comedy for his work in “A Different Man.”
Popular on VarietyCynthia Erivo (“Wicked”), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (“Hard Truths”), Mikey Madison (“Anora”), Demi Moore (“The Substance”) and Fernanda Torres (“I’m Still Here”) are all predicted by Davis for best actress. Torres won the best actress in a drama prize at the Golden Globes, with Moore winning in the musical or comedy category.
Conan O’Brien will be hosting the 2025 Oscars, marking his first time hosting the ceremony. The 97th Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre on March 2, with the show airing on ABC. For the first time, it will also be available to stream live on Hulu.
