Kim Ji Eun has shared her thoughts on her upcoming drama âCheck in Hanyangâ!
Set in the Joseon era, âCheck in Hanyangâ is a romance drama about youths who become âinternsâ at Yongcheonlu, the grandest inn in all of Joseon. Bae In Hyuk will star as Lee Eun Ho, a prince who is secretly hiding his identity, while Kim Ji Eun will play Hong Deok Soo, a woman who disguises herself as a man to join Yongcheonlu.
Describing the drama, Kim Ji Eun remarked, âItâs the story of Deok Soo, who winds up disguising herself as a man for a certain reason, and what unfolds between four youthsâincluding Deok Sooâat Yongcheonlu, the grandest hotel in Joseon.â
As for why she wanted to star in the show, she explained, âItâs my first historical drama, and I also found the premise of a woman disguising herself as a man intriguing, so I wanted to be part of the production.â
In the story, Hong Deok Soo goes undercover at Yongcheonlu in order to uncover the truth about her fatherâs death. Although she faces many hardships after her father passes away, she consistently finds a way to carve out a new path for herself even within a difficult situation.
âDeok Soo is a character who, when sheâs going through a hard time, doesnât let it show and instead overcomes [her struggles] cheerfully and pluckily,â said Kim Ji Eun. âI found that aspect of the character very cool.â
When asked how similar the character is to her real-life personality, Kim Ji Eun humbly replied, âIâm fairly plucky myself, but I think Deok Soo is braver and pluckier than I am.â
âCheck in Hanyangâ will mark two big firsts for Kim Ji Eun: itâs both her first historical drama and her first time playing a woman disguised as a man.
âThrough this drama, I wanted to show that Kim Ji Eun can pull off a variety of genres,â commented the actress. âI think âCheck in Hanyangâ will remain with me as a new challenge and a step forward in my growth.â
âCheck in Hanyangâ premieres on December 21 at 7:50 p.m. KST and will be available to watch on Viki. Check out the latest teaser for the drama here!
