Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster hard-launch their romance: Their path from 'Music Man' co-stars to kissing at the In-N-Out drive-through
Three years ago, Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster were about to make their debut in Broadway's "The Music Man." A lot has happened since.
Generate Key Takeaways
What a difference three years makes. In January 2022, Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster were married to other people and preparing to play love interests in Broadway’s The Music Man. Now they’re a celebrity couple who make out in the In-N-Out Burger drive-through line.
Page Six ran photos, snapped last week, of the pair “passionately kissing” outside the burger chain restaurant in San Fernando, Calif. They also locked lips inside his Range Rover while they were in line at the drive-through.
You never know what avenue a star pair will take to officially hard launch their relationship. For these two, it’s been a series of photo ops at the start of 2025, including some with them holding hands, taken by agencies known to work with celebrities to get shots. The photos confirm the long-rumored romance without either one having to talk about it — for now.

Jackman, 56, and Foster, 49, had known each other for years from the Broadway scene before their respective marriages ended and they got together. She’s a seven-time Tony Award nominee and two-time winner (Best Actress for her roles in Thoroughly Modern Millie and Anything Goes). Most people know Jackman for his blockbusters (Deadpool & Wolverine, the X-Men franchise), but the Australian actor is also a Tony winner for The Boy From Oz in 2004. (Jackman also received a special Tony Award in 2012.)
Here’s how their paths crossed through the years — and how they rolled out their relationship publicly…
2003: Jackman, who married Deborra-Lee Furness in 1996 and adopted two children, visited Foster backstage when she starred in Thoroughly Modern Millie.
The same year, Foster attended the opening night of Jackman’s The Boy From Oz.
2008: Jackman said hello to Foster, who at the time was married to her first husband, Broadway actor Christian Borle, behind the scenes at Broadway’s Shrek.

2014: Jackman was hosting the Tonys, and when announcing the Best Actress category, he danced with the nominees, including Foster, who was up for her role in Violet.

Foster was married for the second time to Ocean’s Eleven screenwriter Ted Griffin.
2017: Jackman’s film The Greatest Showman was released. Foster later said she participated in workshops to help get Jackman’s passion project made.

2019: Jackman was cast as Professor Harold Hill in Broadway’s The Music Man revival, and days later it was announced Sutton would play his love interest, Marian Paroo.
2020: The Music Man, set to open in October, was delayed due to COVID.
2021: While they rehearsed for The Music Man, Foster said she and Jackman shared a room in the rehearsal space, due to COVID restrictions, and they really “bonded” and became a “pair.”
2022: The Music Man finally opened in February. The pair had great chemistry, and it was a box office smash, breaking the Winter Garden Theatre's previous record.

Foster talked about working with Jackman to Broadway.com, saying, “I think one of his superpowers is that he’s so disarming. He immediately puts everyone at ease. He doesn’t make anything about him. He’s so incredibly generous to everyone around him. … So the greatest thing that’s happened out of this whole experience is that I have a new friend — who happens to be Hugh Jackman.”
She told the same outlet her daughter called Jackman “Uncle Hugh.”
Foster talked about their 30-minute pre-show ritual on Live With Kelly and Ryan called “carpet chats,” where they “hang out in my dressing room … and just catch up. … One of the best parts of the whole thing is that I’ve made this wonderful new friend.”
During a joint appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Jackman joked that he saw Foster in Thoroughly Modern Millie when she was “like 4 years old.” He added, “I’ve watched everything she’s done. It’s amazing.”

2023: The Music Man closed in January.
in September, Jackman announced his split from Furness after 27 years together.
The tabloid In Touch reported in December that Jackman and Foster were dating. A source told the outlet, “Their romance is an open secret on Broadway. "[Jackman] has been besotted with Sutton from the moment he met her. He followed her around like a puppy!”
2024: Foster filed for divorce from Griffin after 10 years of marriage in October. Page Six reported that Jackman and Foster were “100 percent together and are in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together.” However, “they go out of their way to hide” the relationship” from the press.
2025: As the new year kicked off, they seemed ready to roll out their romance publicly — without having to discuss it. On Jan. 4, Jackman was snapped in the audience of Foster’s production of Once Upon a Mattress at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, according to photos from DeuxMoi. Carol Burnett, who played Foster’s role in the original 1959 production, sat next to Jackman for the performance.
On Jan. 7, celebrity-friendly People magazine obtained photos of the couple holding hands on a date in Santa Monica the evening before. While it’s not known if the photos were staged — as in, Jackman's and Foster’s teams worked with the agency to snap and sell them — the very clear shots had that look of a posed photo as the couple walked down a street gazing into each other’s eyes.
Shortly after, the two were caught on video making out at In-N-Out Burger in San Fernando, which is not a place paparazzi typically hang out. They stood outside the car, embraced and then kissed. The photographer — from an agency that’s also known for working with celebrities to stage photos — then had the ideal angle of them in the drive-through. Foster had her hands on Jackman’s face as they made out before they ordered and went on their way.
They still haven’t commented on their relationship, or its timeline, for now, letting the photos speak for themselves.
