I followed Meghan Markle's diet for a week and was surprised by what she eats
I spent the week following Meghan Markle's diet, and here's what I thought of her recipes.

Meghan Markle caused quite a stir when she unveiled the first trailer for her brand new Netflix lifestyle show, With Love.
Premiering on Netflix on March 4, the show features Meghan in the kitchen, garden, and beehive as she prepares meals and shares tips and tricks. As anticipation for its release has grown in recent weeks, attention has turned to her foodie credentials.
Before marrying Prince Harry and becoming a Royal, Meghan ran a lifestyle blog called The Tig - named after her favourite wine, Tignanello - where she often shared recipes with her fans.
During her acting years, she made a number of TV appearances to share some of her recipes with viewers, including one appearance on The Hallmark Channel where she shared some taco recipes.
While The Tig has since been deleted from the internet, fans of the Duchess have archived a number of the posts, including some of her delicious recipes. And after going through these and some of her other recipes, I decided to eat like the former actress for a week.

Eating like Meghan for the week did mean I had to switch my usual Tesco order for Ocado, which should have turned out to be a lot more expensive, but thanks to being a new customer, I was able to get 25% off.
This was due to some of the specialist foods in Meghan's diet not actually being available at Tesco (think bee pollen and frozen acai berry) and given that it's not Halloween, they also did not have pumpkin in stock.
During the week, I was surprised to find that eating like Meghan was fairly easy (once I had purchased the ingredients, that is), and it did actually make me feel a lot healthier than my usual diet, and yes, I have kept up with some of the dishes and snacks I ate this week.
While some of the dishes weren't particularly filling, there were others that left me full for hours - and there was only really one disaster meal that did not quite work out.
From courgette pastas, pumpkin soups, and fruity acai bowls, here's everything I ate while following Meghan Markle's diet.

Breakfasts included oats and acai bowls (Image: Isobel Pankhurst)Breakfasts
Starting off the week, I found Meghan's lack of caffeine rather daunting, as the Duchess starts the day with a cup of hot water and lemon. After trying this, I realised I was still going to need my morning coffee, something that has been my go-to since I was in school.
I had a lot more luck with food and started the week with an acai bowl, following a recipe Meghan shared with influencer and blogger Athena Calderone. This was certainly a delicious start to the week, and it is a dish I will certainly be making again. It was also my first time trying bee pollen, which was a tasty addition to the bowl but one that could be quite expensive to always include.
After a couple of days of acai bowls, I opted for some oats. Writing in his book on Meghan and Harry, Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie shared that one of Meghan's go-to breakfasts is steel-cut oats (also known as pinhead or Irish oats) topped with bananas and agave syrup.
This one certainly wasn't my favourite breakfast, but I have made it again since (I do have a whole bag of oats to get through) and found that replacing the bananas with blueberries and apples was much more up my street than the banana oats.
Lunches were delicious (Image: Isobel Pankhurst)Lunch
Meghan's lunches typically include avocado, kale, and quinoa. Starting the week, I opted for baked egg and avocado, a recipe she shared on The Tig. It turned out to be quite delicious, and I will certainly be having it for my lunches again.
Another lunch I picked was avocado toast, which I seasoned with some red pepper flakes, something that the Duchess includes in several of her recipes.
The third lunch I had during the week was seasoned vegetables with quinoa, which Meghan shared that she would eat back when she was filming Suits. While this certainly tasted nice, I've always preferred couscous over quinoa, and found myself thinking the dish would be just that bit better with couscous instead.
Meghan typically opts for healthy snacks (Image: Isobel Pankhurst)Snacks
Like much of her diet, Meghan opts for healthy snacks, which include apple slices with peanut butter and kale crisps. The latter of which she shared with Today.com back in 2012, four years before she met Prince Harry.
After making the kale crisps, according to Meghan's recipe, I also mixed up an avocado dip, which was featured in the recipe book Together: Our Community Cookbook, for which the Duchess penned a foreword - in which she wrote that the avocado dip is one she now regularly makes at home.
The same recipe book also contains a recipe for hummus, which Meghan is known to enjoy (with a clip of her making some appearing in the trailer for her upcoming Netflix show), and which she often has with crackers.
All of these snacks were quite tasty, and I've now started eating apple and peanut butter a couple of times a week when I start feeling peckish in the afternoon. And I'll certainly be making the kale crisps, avocado dip and hummus again, too.
Another staple of Meghan's diet is green juice - which she opts for instead of an afternoon coffee. I tried this throughout the week but was rather disappointed each time, with the result tasting rather plain.
The dinners were a rather mixed bag (Image: Isobel Pankhurst)Dinners
Dinners were something of a mixed bag. I started with a spicy broccoli and hempseed stew, which is not photographed, as it didn't quite go to plan and ended up more like a curry without rice, but it did taste quite nice. The next day was time to try Meghan's courgette pasta, which she had previously described as "filthy, sexy mush", and while it may not look particularly appetising this was actually a really nice dinner.
On Wednesday, I opted for a sweet potato and white bean soup from The Tig archives, which was actually my favourite of the homemade dinners. While I did find the suggestion of topping the soup with apples rather strange, it actually worked quite well.
It couldn't possibly be a week of eating like Meghan without opting for some tacos, a food she has repeatedly expressed her fondness for, from sharing a fish taco recipe on The Tig and eating chicken tacos with Michelle Obama to sharing a vegan taco recipe on the Hallmark Channel.
As a vegetarian, I opted for the vegan tacos option, which, as tacos go, was actually rather disappointing and quite plain - although it still wasn't the worst of the meals. That distinction went to the pumpkin soup, which could have been nice if it wasn't for the amount of salt in Meghan's recipe - which, even as someone who has been known to over-salt their food, was far too much.
When it came to the weekend, I ended up ordering some veggie sushi from my local sushi place - sushi being another food that Meghan has repeatedly declared her love for. On Sunday I opted for some fries, a food the Duchess has labelled her "guilty pleasure."
The verdict
Eating like Meghan was actually surprisingly easy, although I did have more soups than I would typically have in a week. And many of the meals were quite filling, meaning I wasn't reaching for those evening snacks - and even if I was, I had some healthy options readily available.
While I don't think I could permanently follow the Duchess of Sussex's diet, there are a number of dishes I will be incorporating into my weekly meal plans going forward and others I will be adapting for my own tastes while keeping the bare bones of the dish the same.
