ITV News star Ruth Dodsworth diagnosed with pneumonia as she admits ‘I’m fragile
ITV News meteorologist Ruth Dodsworth has revealed she is "feeling helpless" after opening up about her battle with a serious case of Pneumonia.
ITV weather presenter Ruth Dodsworth has opened up about her tough health battle after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
Taking to Instagram to share her experience, the beloved broadcaster opened up about how a simple cold had escalated into a serious condition, leaving her feeling “fragile”.
The mum-of-two, 49, wrote: “Nothing like a random dose of pneumonia to make you realise that you are not invincible. No idea how it’s come to this… but a small cold has turned me into a coughing and spluttering mess with aching ribs and a general feeling of helplessness."
Reflecting on her milestone birthday this year, Ruth added: “I mean… I know I’m 50 this year… but I hadn’t banked on feeling this old this quickly! I’m one of those lucky ones… generally fit and healthy… don’t drink/smoke etc….and I guess I never really had to think about it before.”
The weather presenter, known for her resilience, encouraged her followers to prioritize their health. She added: “It can take just one little thing to realise how fragile we actually are. And that your health is the most important thing in the world,” she said.
Despite the illness, Ruth remained optimistic, sharing: “On the mend and looking forward to getting back to normal. I have that privilege… many don’t. So my love to you all. Look after yourselves and I’ll see you soon!! Xxx #health #wealth #life #lookafteryourself #love.”
Fans flooded Ruth's post with warm wishes, with one user writing: “Oh no! Rest and recover,” as another echoed: “Healing hugs Ruth,” and a third chimed in with: “Hope you’re feeling better soon.” Ruth’s health scare comes as she continues to rebuild her life after escaping an abusive marriage.
The ITV star recently opened up about the long-lasting effects of domestic abuse, revealing that her ex-husband Jonathan Wignall- who served 18 months in prison for coercive control and stalking - continues to cast a shadow over her life.
Speaking candidly on Loose Women about her ordeal, Ruth explained: “He pleaded guilty to coercively controlling behaviour and stalking. He served his time, and yes, absolutely he’s done his time and people deserve second chances.
"But I’m still serving my time, me and my children are serving our time. It never goes away.” Married to Wignall for nearly 20 years,
Ruth fled the abusive relationship in 2019. Wignall was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021 after admitting to his crimes but was released halfway through his term.
Despite his release, Ruth has spoken out to raise awareness about coercive control, appearing on the ITV daytime show to advocate for a register of convicted offenders to protect others.
“I was terrified for my life,” Ruth previously shared. “But by speaking out, I hope to help others who might be suffering in silence.”
