ITV's new drama Protection, starring Happy Valley's Siobhan Finneran, is premiering this weekend
ITV's new miniseries Protection is bringing Happy Valley's Siobhan Finneran back to screen as she explores the murky world of witness protection.
It has been created and written by Kris Mrksa, who has previously penned series such as The Murders at White House Farm, No Escape, and Requiem.

The show promises to explore a "morally-grey, clandestine world", and take audiences "deep into the heart of the criminal underbelly."

Protection follows a witness protection officer who finds herself at the centre of a breach, compromised by an extramarital romance with a coworker; but resolute in her resolve to fight back and unearth the real cause of corruption within her unit.

ITV's official synopsis adds: "Navigating the morally-grey, clandestine world of witness protection, Liz's mission to find the truth will take her deep into the heart of the criminal underbelly and beyond as she becomes more and more torn between caring for her family, her loyalty to her lover and her duty as a police officer.
"This is the story of a smart, tough cop, out of her depth in a world where nothing is as it seems."
Protection will premiere at 9pm on Sunday, March 16 on ITV1 and ITVX, while the second episode will air at 9pm on Monday, March 17 on ITV1.

All episodes will be available on ITVX from Sunday, March 16.
Following this, the subsequent episodes will drop weekly and will appear on ITVX the day of release on ITV1.
The crime drama is set to be a six-part miniseries, with each episode airing for one hour on ITV1 and ITVX.

Happy Valley and Downton Abbey star Siobhan Finneran leads the cast as DI Nyles and is joined by former Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly who plays DCI Hannah Wheatley; audiences may also recognise her from ITV's The Long Shadow and Innocent.

Filming took place between July and September 2023 in the north-west of England, with locations including Birkenhead, Runcorn, and Liverpool.

Proection starts tonight (Sunday, March 16) on ITV1 at 9pm, with the second episode airing on Monday at the same time. The first two episodes are available to watch on ITVX now.
