ITV This Morning host 'very sad' as she says goodbye to 'special' co-star
This Morning presenter Josie Gibson said goodbye to a member of the team during Friday's edition of the hit ITV daytime programme
This Morning's Josie Gibson expressed her sorrow as she said goodbye to a beloved colleague on Friday (February 28), declaring "it's a very sad day".
During the latest episode of the popular ITV morning show, Josie shared that it was the final day for show boss Martin Frizell in the studio.
"Today is a very special day, and a very sad day for us, because our editor, Martin, it's his last day," she disclosed, mentioning that Martin would be selecting the tunes for Friday's jukebox segment.
Alison Hammond chimed in, praising Martin's musical choices as Shania Twain's 1997 anthem 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman!' played, saying, "He's got quite good taste, our editor."
Josie playfully responded with, "He has got good taste. Well, he employs us!" to which Alison agreed, "Very true! Good point, babe, good point," reports Wales Online.
Martin had previously announced in November 2024 his decision to step down from the show. At 66, he's opting to leave his decade-long tenure as editor to dedicate more time to his wife, Fiona Phillips, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2022.
"Next year I'm expecting my family priorities to change, so I need to free up time for them. I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly, but it's an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment, and I won't be able to do both," he explained in a statement.
Reflecting on his career, he added, "It's been a privilege to lead truly great presenters and producers, between us we've turned out more than six thousand hours of live topical telly, that's around 20,000 items.
"Whilst the gongs are always nice, I'm most proud of the change we made to so many lives, even saving a fair few with our campaigns on anti-suicide, menopause, testicular cancer and 'how-to' items. This juggernaut is the toughest test for any broadcast journalist."
Starting Monday (March 3), Vivek Sharma will take the helm as editor of This Morning, having been deeply involved in the show's production as associate editor for 15 months.
Regarding his upcoming role, Vivek expressed: "Having grown up watching the show, it's an incredible privilege and honour to take on the role of editor of This Morning.
"It has been 37 years of remarkable broadcasting and This Morning has firmly established itself as a national treasure commanding some truly unforgettable television moments."
In conclusion, Vivek shared his enthusiasm: "The team on and off camera are world-class and I can't wait to work alongside them in my new role, as we shape the future of this iconic brand."
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
