ITV viewers issue same complaint about Martin Clunes minutes into new drama
TV viewers have shared their verdict on new ITV drama Out There, with some picking fault with actor Martin Clunes' performance in the series
New drama Out There has kicked off on ITV, starring Martin Clunes as Welsh farmer Nathan Williams.
The first episode landed on TV screens on Sunday 19 January, with many ITV viewers instantly gripped by the gritty drama. Out There explores the murky world of county lines drug dealing, with Nathan being confronted by the impact of dealing in his local community.
Martin's portrayal of Nathan has come under fire by fans, who have criticised his attempts at a convincing Welsh accent. Viewers took to social media to share their verdict on the actor's performance, following the show's premiere on ITV.
Viewers issued a complaint about Martin's character
"As a Welsh person, this welsh accent is poor. Martin, you’re great but the accent is really off putting. I can’t watch it #OutThere," one person commented on X.
A second fan added: "I mean, there are a number of distinct Welsh accents but this is none of them. #OutThere," while a third wrote: "Martin Clunes Welsh accent is bad but not bad like Stephen Graham's in White House Farm #OutThere."
"#OutThere The thing that most annoys me about the accent is that it's the only thing people are tweeting about," a fourth Out There viewer penned.
Others defended Martin, claiming:"I'm Welsh. I have no problem with it. There are so many different accents in Wales."

It wasn't just Martin's accent that came under fire, as viewers were also left shocked by a grisly opening scene in the first episode of Out There.
After receiving a distressing phone call, Nathan heads out to find a woman named Gwen (Sharon Morgan). He meets her as she is shouting and signalling towards a locked barn. He discovers an elderly man who has shut himself in there with a shotgun.
Nathan tries to reason with the man through a crack in the door, before the shotgun can be heard going off, followed by images of the barn covered in blood.
Shocked viewers flocked to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts on the scene. "I know they advertised this as 'gritty' but this is depressing," shared one watcher, as another penned: "Think this might be too stressful #outthere."
Out There episode two airs on ITV1 on January 20 at 9pm, with the full box set also available to watch now on ITVX
